I may be buying an m1a via private sale in MD.  A few questions:

1)  If we do the xfer at a police station, can it be any police station, or only state police barracks, or what?  Is there a list of locations?

2)  Do I have to do a waiting period in this case?

I did a transfer several years ago at the Golden Ring barricks of Maryland State Police. This worked out very well.  I don't think every MSP location will do transfers, but there may be ones other than Golden Ring. The waiting period is the same.

Also, who keeps the gun during the waiting period- the seller?

Yes. Not all MSP stations do xfers.

I wouls call the MSP HQ in Jessup MD to find one in your local area.

If it helps anymore I have know a guy who does Xfers for only $20. He's in Glen Burnie.

The Jessup barracks should be able to handle it.
You will need a check made out to the MD State Police. They do not accept cash or credit cards.
The seller will hold the firearm until he receives the papers back in 7 days.

If Jessup doesn't accept apps. the Glen Burnie barracks does.

NOTE do not take the firearm in with you, leave it in the car. The two of you go in and inform them that you are here to transfer the firearm.
The paperwork (State app only) is the same as if you are buying one from a dealer.
