Rumor has it Mike Benedict might be organizing a low light pistol class. He and I talked about it and felt like a lot of guys have probably never practiced shooting in low/no light conditions. I bet most guys on here have never practiced shooting your pistol with a flashlight in your support hand. I also bet most guys on here have never fired their carry ammo in low light conditions. Have any idea what kind of muzzle flash you'll get with your choosen load? Will it blind you?? Are night sights on your pistol really necessary?
Anyway, I'll keep everyone informed if and when this is going to happen. It would be held at Pickens and would be a half-day kind of class starting an hour tor two before dusk. We should have a few extra lights for guys who might need to borrow a flashlight. (If you carry a firearm but don't carry a flashlight, shame on you. ) Mark |

Book,
Very good idea. I know I would like to attend. Accountant PS:
Why would I want to show them where I was standing? Seems like an easy shot to me........aim for the light. |
Two words - target identification!!!
Take the class and you'll understand. But the short version is this:: illuminate and then MOVE!! You don't walk around with the flashlight on. Use a strobing technique and move. |
I might take that class, I like shooting lowlifes..
Sorry I re-read it. Low LIGHT... |
I get plenty of practice shooting in the dark...I shoot with my eyes closed.
This might be an illuminating experiance. I would also like to attend.
Chris Sorry, I couldn't resist. |
I'd like to attend. I'd like to borrow a flashlight. I'm guessing it would be tough to strobe w/ a pocket mag light. I'm one of the heathens who does not carry a flash light. Guess I'll have to put one on the list. Be nice to see what people have and like.

I carry a SureFire E2e everyday. When I walk the dog at night I also take and primarily use a SureFire L5 Digital Lumamax. The Lumamax runs longer and has more splash, which is why it gets "dog duty". I have two E2e lights because I'm one of those guys big into redundancy. You can borrow a light from me no problem. I also have some G2 Nitrolons and a G2Z. To all, I spoke with Mike today and he is going to schedule this very soon. I'll keep everyone posted. |

Surefire plastic G2, about $35. Excellent high power weapon light. I have no use for a $200 flashlight, crenelated bezel or not. If I can't shoot them or stab them I won't be able to crush their skull with my flashlight either. |

Book, Why would you get dog duty on your light...yuck. I don't want to borrow that one... Thanks for the offer of a loan. Seems like lots of people like the G2s for the performance/cost. |
Yes, G2s are great lights. However, they are not idea for everyday carry, IMHO. Why not? Well for one think the tailcap has a momentary switch and no lock out feature. The lock out feature, like on an E2e, allows you to turn the tailcap to a position the disable the tailcap button. It is protection against a light AD. I also much prefer the slimmer E2e for daily carry. It has a clip on it so I can clip it in my front pocket and it isn't in the way.
You'll get to see both at the class. Now, the E2d has the sharper strike bezel. I agree that it is a poor excuse for a defensive weapon. It will also tear up your clothes if you carry it everyday. At least that is what several friends have told me and they carry their lights like I carry mine, so I can see how this is possible. |
What's wrong with a 4-D cell Mag light????
If you run out of bullets you can beat them with it. Accountant |
That's only P806's weapon of choice. He is the only one professional enough to carry a 4D Mag light! |
Sometimes, though, you can't beat the sound of a 6 D-cell MagLite.
What does that sound like exactly? |

Any date on this? Gotta give the "boss" as much notice as possible so I can leave her at home on the weekend w/ the munchkins.
I'm waiting on Mike to set the date. He needs to clear everything with the range.
Wrong-o my friend, they do now. and water tight to 33 feet(but not operable). ByteTheBullet (-: |

Really? I'll have to check out a new one then. Thanks for the tip. SureFire also changed the E2e model tailcap. On the older models, the button is a momentary on button only. For constant light you turn the cap all the way clockwise. On the newer models the button acts as a momentary switch when pressed in only part way. Keep pressing it in until it clicks for constant light. Turning the cap all the way clockwise does nothing to turn on the light. Turning the cap a bit counter clockwise puts the cap in the lockout position.
I still prefer the smaller E2e with a pocket clip though for daily carry. |
I am open on dates would you all prefer a friday or a saturday evening?
Either works for me, Mike. Saturday might be a little easier for most folks though.
And in a pinch it makes for a great quick and dirty hammer. |
Saturday would be easier due to work constraints. |
S-A-TUR-DAY NIGHT! S-A-TUR-DAY NIGHT! SA-SA-SA-SATURDAY NIGGGHHHHHTTT.
But not this one. Gotta work all weekend. Might bring a potential recruit. He's a former squid as well. |
Mike, I think it's probably best to just pick a Saturday and go for it. No matter what, some guys won't be able to attend.
How about February 4th? That is two weeks from this Saturday. That should give guys who need gear (ammo, flashlight, certain clothing suitable for cooler temps, etc.) ample time, but it isn't so far into the future that people's plans/schedules change. Second vote is for the following Saturday on the 11th. |
I sit in on lowlight classes regularly, but i sure would like to attend this one. looks like you would have it a little further (farther?) south.
I'll be out of town on the 4th. I'll either be at the Hard Rock competition or I might have to go visit with family that weekend. |
Arrgh, if it wasn't so friggin expensive for a plane ticket and such a pain in the ass to fly with guns, I would be there. I can just see it now, a TSA agent holding up a chest rig and tac holster, with all of its straps and stuff hanging out..."what is this, some kind of kinky S&M terrorist setup?...get yo ass against the wall!"
You could drive it in 8 - 12 hours depending on where you live and how fast you drive. |
Yeah, I could, but a 20+ hour, 1500 mile round trip drive for a 4-6 hour class is pretty tough.
Go out to 14th & K late Friday night and take your 45 and a lot of ammo with you. You'll get plenty of low life/low light training. |
Howdy Mike -
Can we get a suggested inventory for the class -- ammo, mags, mag pouches, safety equipment, pads, concealment clothing... For those who haven't been up the range in the winter: it is cooler and breezier than in the suburbs, layer accordingly. |
Put me down if you need a list. More than likely going to bring my dad, maybe brother. What's the fee for this one? +1 for the equipment list.
I'm in.
Anybody want to ride together from the Lawrenceville/Discover Mills area? |
You will need
Pistol Holster and mag pouch spare mag 200 rounds ammo flashlight clear shooting glasses fee is $25 Mike |
That’s always been my technique. I figure that I will shine my Surefire in their eyes so that they will suffer the same, although involuntary, disadvantage. Afterwards I just empty my Glock in the general direction I feel the threat is coming from. |
I would like to do this class if it is on the 4th and not the 11th. Let me know.
Mike,
Will the class still be held if its raining saturday night? The forecast isn't looking very good. Accountant |
Azalin,
The class is on the 4th. Not sure about the weather question though. |
I don't see your name on the attendance list. |
