This came in the mail, I'm sure I made a "list" somewhere in his office because of all the letters I sent regarding the AWB...
Dear Mr. Mayo
I am pleased to inform you that the federal ban on assault weapons will expire on Sept. 13, 2004. I voted against the AWB in 1993 as well as against an earlier attempt this year to renew the ban. While the expiration of the AWB marks significant progress in the fight to ensure the gun rights of all Americans, more remains to be done.
That is why I am redoubling my commitment to defending the Second Amendment by supporting several important gun initiatives. As a cosponser of the Lawful Commerce Protection Act (S. 659), I am working to protect firearms manufacturers from frivolous lawsuits related to the deliberate and illegal misuse of their products. I strongly support this legislation because I do not believe that the rights of responsible gun owners should be compromised by individuals who use firearms to commit crimes. I also am fighting to protect the rights of the citizens of our nation's capital by supporting the District of Columbia Personal Protection Act (S. 1414). This legislation would repeal the District of Columbia's firearm registration requirements, handgun ban, and ban on certain semiautomatic weapons.
I recognize the importance of our nation's hunting heritage, and am strongly commited to expanding the opportunities available to sportsmen throughout Nevada and the nation. I am trying to pass legislation that would provide $50 million annually in state grants to encourage landowners to voluntarily make their land available for hunting and other receration.
Since being elected to the House of Representatives in 1982, I have pledged to bring Nevada values to Washington D.C., and that means supporting the Second Amendment.
My best wishes to you....
