Quoted: Hey FMJunkie,
I've been looking into getting a 45acp as well and I have narrow it down to the P220 and the H&K USP 45.
Any particular reason you choice the sig vs. the h&k? Unless of course you already have a h&k. I'm hoping to shot them both very soon then making my final choice.
Thanks Cain

Here's my take on it...
First, they are both top-of-line pistols. There is no question about that.
I owned a Sig P220 years ago, so this is my second. A close friend of mine at that time bought the USP45 at the same time I got the Sig. We both did a lot of research and looking around before coming to our decisions.
The choice for me, and for almost everyone I've met on both sides of the Sig/HK fence, is simply about ergonomics and control. These, of course, lead to how well you can shoot either one. Some important obersvations I made along the way:
Grip size - The USP is wide. Its a double-stack .45, and it feels like it. If you are not comfortable with large/wide grips, this could be a real issue for you. If you can't comfortably and securely hold the weapon, you can't shoot it well. On the flip side, some people prefer the larger, more substantial grip size.
Felt recoil - Neither of these pistols is bad in this department, considering the round. However, I've noticed they do handle the recoil differently. The Sig seems to push more straight back and up where the HK, at least the ones I've fired, seem to push up and left more. I think the difference in feeling is due, in part, to the fact that the HK slide seems to ride higher above your hand than the Sig. (it also has more mass in the slide than the Sig does)
De-cocker/safety - Some folks flat-out reject a manual/mechanical safety on a handgun. If this is an issue for you, the USP is a problem. The Sig has no manual safety but does have a de-cocking lever.
Mag capacity - Obviously, the HK wins out here. However, I can live with 8 vs 10 per mag.
In the end, you need to actually shoot both of them. That will make up your mind for you almost immediately. I know it did for me...
