How much snow did you guys get? I just got in from shoveling. With all the wind blowing around my house, it ended up being 19" of snow in my driveway measured with a yard stick. and the snow keeps on coming.... I live in Saint Paul.......Got the truck out and went around the block......Is anyone working today??? The main streets aren't even plowed....Cars are stuck everywhere..even 4 wheel drives.
Here in Alex we haven't really gotten much since last weekend... We got a little yesterday but nothing really significant
I just got to cleaning the snow off the car here in St Paul, it covered my entire tire( i have a small 4dr)
I'm at about 18" in Inver Grove Heights. I went out and saw a lot of people stuck or in ditches. I didn't have a problem in the Jeep. I should buy a tow strap and start charging people to pull them out.
If you are thinking about taking the bus...FYI: Metro Transit called it quits at 1:54 today......I think they had about 60+ buses stuck around the city.

I went from Maplewood to White Bear Lake, This afternoon. Side streets are a mess.
Highway 36 looked like a parking lot while I went under it on McKnight Road. |
West of Chaska... What a mess!!!
Just got back in from my second session of snowblowing. 10" or so each time, and it ain't over yet. Took a trip to the gas station for the snowblower and the beer store on the way home. I'm now good for the duration! |
Just blew the driveway again. Hard to say how much snow but I had a 6 ft drift across the the double overhead door in 4 hours and the end of my driveway was about 4 feet deep by 20 feet by 10 feet. OF course once that was cleared another 4-6 inches is on the driveway again.
Just finished a few beers with the neighbors in the driveway. Nothing like drinking fast to keep the beer from freezing! |
In Chan myself and it just keeps snowing. That wind has to really suck because the drifts are over 3 feet in the yard..

I didn't measure but the snow came over the front of the wheeler when I hit the pile too hard. I'll be back out after dinner to clean up this evening.
You have to practice space management, that's for sure. The farmers almanac said it would be a snowy winter. |
Well, I won't be going anywhere. Dumbfucks in their little shittin cars with no ground clearance are blocking my street at both ends.
I couldn't tell how much snow there is. It all blew right up against the house and shop. Snapped a front axle on the wheeler plowing the drifts so if anyone knows of an alternative to going right to the dealer to get ATV parts that would be great. I'll have to check out Dennis Kirk and Shadetree. For some reason I thought there were some automotive parts stores that carried some ATV parts like that but I guess I was wrong.

Helped dig a few cars and a mini-van out of the snow drifts in front of my house today... The snow was over 10" at the time and each time it happened - the women and kids piled out of the cars, and trudged through the snow to get back home... Then the husbands informed me, "Yeah, I told her we wouldn't make it and should stay put! But NO! Everyone will be SO UPSET if we don't show up for the holiday party!"
None of them got any further than 1 block before getting stuck in front of my house. The wind at the intersection in front of my house creates the PERFECT snow-drifts over 3' high or more. Never fails. I've spent the whole day either studying, or outside helping neighbors dig their cars out of the snow drifts. One of the idiots was in a suit, tie, and he got his Lexus stuck. His bitchy wife was wearing nothing but a tight red dress & high heals - NEITHER of them had winter coats in their car - I guess they figured with the heater they wouldn't need it. Stupid fools. ETA: Snow in the Crystal / West Metro near me is about 15" to 16" now. |
been delivering pizzas in the fridley area since 11am.
AWESOME. |
In Apple Valley, the plow went by my place an hour ago. Most of the neighbors are digging out. The winds tonight will make things interesting...
got a huge amount here, wow that was really hard work getting it off my car, it was about as thick as a paper....
Just finished the 2nd go-round on the driveways. If this stuff keeps up I'm going break down and get chains for the 4-wheeler. Neighbor has a POS Bronco with a homemade plow mount, so I just pushed all my stuff into the street and he pushed the big piles into the front yard.
I'm 6'3", and there were numerous drifts up to my thighs here in CR. Also helped the neighbor get unstuck in their driveway. Rewarding myself with a few or more cold ones now. Why is it when its 90 degrees outside, a cold beer is the best tasting beverage ever, but when its 10 degrees a warm beer still tastes like shit? |
Just got in from the second round. It was worse than the first because it was more drift than honest snow. I'm out toward Delano, and it is pretty much thigh deep. I'm glad I bought those snow shoes now.

All these posts about getting tons of snow and i didn't even get enough to have to shovel

I don't like beer so much after shoveling - I do sure like a Bourbon or Scotch though!

Probably got 14-18" here in Savage. I have a 4x4 F250 truck and went to Target around noon and along the 4-5 miles to get there I must have passed a few dozen cars in the ditch or just spinning their tires in the middle of the road. It amazes me that anyone in a non 4 x 4 vehicle would try and go out on a day like this. On my way back from Target highway 42 leading up to it is about a 20 degree grade but has a stop light about 100 yards before the crest. All the cars at the light who lost their momentum going up the hill when the light turned red were stuck and were blocking the entire highway. It was backed up for about a mile and there must have been a hundred cars stuck (either themselves stuck or simply being blocked by a stuck car).
Another foot and the drift in the driveway will be up to the side window on my truck. Watched the people across the street get suck trying to get out of their driveway. Street is all drifted in but I am staying warm inside sipping my Grand Marnier no desire to venture out tonight.
Well, the snow is finally dying down - but not stopped yet. It's also drifting a fair bit.
Up to about 17" as measured from my picnic table on the back deck. Still no sign of the city snow plow crews. Had another 2 more cars stuck outside my house in the snow drifts, but I was too warm & cozy studying here in the office to go outside & help dig 'em out. A couple other neighbors took care of it though.

Well I'll stick my neck out and prove I'm a dumbass.
Me and a couple buddies figured we take a trip to Treasure Island. Have an F150 4x4 so not a huge deal. When I was on 494 on my way to pick up my friends, every on and off ramp was closed due to stuck cars. Figured I'd keep going. We made it down to the casino no biggie. Casino was as dead as I've ever seen it. Maybe 4 tables were full and no poker games going. Not that there are smart people that go to the casino anyway, but the smarter ones stayed home. Caught wind of Hwy 61 possibly closing down so we had to leave a little early. Actually 61 was the best road out there at the time. Anyway, the highways weren't bad, but the side roads back to Eagan were meh. Plows hadn't gone through. Got to plow through a 4 foot drift ala Ford tough commercials (it was awesome!) Won some money I hope to spend at the gun show tomorrow, but I'll have to see how the drifts are at before leaving. |

Here in Robbinsdale, I've heard we've had around 20" of snow. I've shoveled my driveway/immediate alleyway three times today. My wife and I went out and had supper at the home of one of her friends in Blaine. That was the damnedest thing I've done in recent memory. I can't believe that all the more stuck we got (three times) was remedied by a minute or less with the shovel.
Numerous vehicles in the ditch, spun out, or just plain stuck all the way there and back. Most problematic were entry/exit ramps to the highways. Some exit ramps, such as the one we originally had selected, were epic, containing no fewer than a dozen vehicles or more. Several ramps were rendered useless in this way and I'm sure many a "make a move" resulted from this lack of "space management". It's a mystery to me how the police got their cruisers on the roads. It was nice of them not to pull me over for blowing through stop signs and red light to avoid becoming stuck (of course with no oncoming traffic) I still can't believe we actually pulled off that trip. Hell on our gas milage. |

Hell on our gas milage. Funny you bring up gas mileage. I traded a 30+ mpg car for a gas guzzler earlier this year. Expensive as hell to fill up, but honestly I smile every time I drive it crap like this. 12mpg overall today. Yipee! |

im in Inver Grove heights ( hey RyanC, what street ya live on? )
i plowed the driveway with the 4wheeler at 730. we had 6-7 inches at the time. i plowed it again when we got back at about 1030 from the gun show. i then glass bed my mosin nagant 91/30, played a f-load of Grand Theft Auto IV on PS3, ate like a king and watched "Restrepo" ( its in redbox, a must see documentary ) i took the dogs out at like 8PM... the snow drift in the back yard is about 3-4 feet deep. in the AM ill be busting out the john deere tractor and bucket, and piling that shit in the middle of the court, so the city can haul it away. at this rate, ill run out of room stacking it in my yard. |

We lucked out up here in Duluth - only about 1/2" at most today. The Big Lake saved us again - everything dumped along the South Shore. Stay safe everyone!
Plymouth/Maple Grove got dumped on... we saw at least 18" as I was using the snow blower 3 times.
We did fill up both the gas tanks tonight as the cars were 1/4 full. With temps dipping down to -10 tomorrow night, I want to avoid frozen gas lines. The snow drifts were starting to cover the areas already plowed... Sunday will be "fun". |

Looks like the metrodome roof collapsed at around 5am. Game canceled until tomorrow and not sure when they are fixing the roof.

well... ive been moving snow for about 2 hours now with the four wheeler and the tractor trying to make a spot for the dogs to go out, get the snow away from the house and clear the drvieway.
F-YOU winter wonderland ! |

I am sooooo glad that I went out a couple of times yesterday to shovel because this morning was a breeze (except at the end of the driveway where the plow dumped about 16" of rocky, compact snow ). Both times yesterday the snow was about 8" deep and this morning it was about 2". There are a few housed down the street that didn't do anything yesterday and now they are stuck with the whole brunt of snowfall. I feel sorry for those guys .

I am actuaaly relieved the snow has given the Vikes another week off.

I am actuaaly relieved the snow has given the Vikes another week off. Sorry man, just another day. They will be playing tomorrow @ 7pm in Detroit. They are talking about using TCF if it's long-term damage. I wouldn't anticipate them fixing the stadium in under a week, especially since it's in not so great condition as it is. |

Should I shovel the snow away from the house, or at least the ground level windows?

Should I shovel the snow away from the house, or at least the ground level windows? i do my best to keep the snow away from a particular area of the house and push it to the front of the yard. if we get a really fast warm up, like 2 springs ago when it hit 60 something degrees out of the blue... all that snow melted so fast that some water leaked into the basement. so i try to keep it as far away as possible. |

This storm has provided me with immense entertainment. I had surgery Thursday to plate, screw, and pin my arm back together, as I broke it last weekend. I was stocked in supplies well in advance of the storm, in prep for the surgery. I giggle at all the people whining about shoveling and plowing. I used my single stage snow blower, one handed, a couple of times and had zero issue keeping my 70' driveway clear of snow in Plymouth. I was clearing 6-8" each time I went out.
I see a lot of man cards being forfeited this weekend |
I made it out and about twice yesterday. My little RWD S-10 took it pretty well, even though there was at least 8" of snow on the roads. The craziest thing that happened to me was when a car several vehicles ahead of me spun out in the middle of the road, and the traffic right behind it stopped. I couldn't stop, but I could turn, so I just aimed right at a snowbank and hoped for the best. That bled off enough energy right away, but I still had enough to carry on through, and still made it out on my own.
