Can someone fill me in on the legalities of owning a 37mm flare launcher in NY? I know we can't have HE rounds and 37mm to 12ga adaptors and DD devices.

I'm sure you can put them on a preban AR but I'm don't know about post ban guns. You could also have a stand alone launcher like an M79 clone because they aren't semiauto. Are they classified as grenade launchers by the ATF? Is the diameter of the tube 37mm or 40mm?

Yes you can own them. Its some of the rounds they're a bit "touchy" on.

As far as I'm aware, you can place them on either pre/post ban rifles. They are not classified as a DD in NYS, as they have a 37mm bore.

Collector's Rifle and Ammo in Hopewell Junction has them for sale.

They're legal. Its the explosive or frag rounds which are illegal (and you can't get them anyhow.)

But you can find flare rounds instead.

My .02, for what it's worth: they're probably not legal, even though lots of people have them and sell them in NYS. If you want to be on the safe side, don't get one.
