Yes, it is legal but you are restricted as to what rounds you can shoot from it.

What rounds are illegal? Are the rounds that they sell at Walmart legal, the ones that look like 12g shells? Are 37mm rds legal?

You can't use use any round that would be considered "anti-personnel" which may or may not include chalk rounds. I don't know which rounds you are referring to at walmart (flare rounds?, if so they're probably the 26.5mm). 37mm rounds are legal but you can only use flares, smoke (i think) and chalk rounds depending on who you talk to. |

No tear gas, beanbag or OC rounds. The 37mm is considered a signal device.
There are adapters out there so you can fire 12 ga and 26mm signals out of the 37mm also. |

As long as your flares/smoke are USCG approved signaling devices...otherwise, they are fireworks...which is a violation IIRC. |
