I stumbled across a very interesting site today. It is put together by a guy claiming to be a prosecutor for the Commonwealth. He is pro-gun and has an excellent description of the laws regarding self-defense here in VA. He explains the difference between justifyable and excusable use of force and backs it up with statutes and case law. He also discusses defense of property and the "castle doctrine" which is very well laid out, but the conclusions are a bit nebulous.

Check it out when you have time. home.earthlink.net/~haskman/va_law.htm. Be sure to also click the "Home" button at the top for a description of who he is.

Thanks for the link!

The Virginia Law, History, and Loophole pages merit serious reading ... especially in light of the author's apparent job as an Assistant Commonwealth Attorney/Prosecutor in Pittsylvania County (between Lynchburg and Danville on Route 29, near the border with NC).

I sure wish we had more of his ilk serving the citizens of the Commonwealth ... especially up here in NoVa (Arlington would be a good spot IMO <g>). Hhhmm ... maybe a spot for him in the Kilgore administration??? Although a commute to Richmond from Pittsylvania County is probably out of the question, he'd still be able to live in the true South. Certainly as a member of Gov. Kilgore's team, his influence would be much broader than its current limits (to beneficiaries in the Chatham area).

BTW, I took the liberty of sending him an invite to join the fun here on ARF.com.
