3 years ago Mason Co SD took my war belt into evidence when the then girlfriend came to visit. She says they told her that they would hold it until they decided to press charges and that they had 3 yrs to do so. Times up. She says she's been calling the evidence room but hasn't got an answer. Is there a better approach than phone calls? I can't make it to Shelton during the week, I don't even make it into Olympia until almost 6pm every day.

I'd call the front desk and ask when the evidence tech is in, then call them. Aberdeen only had their evidence custodian in a couple days a week, fo a couple hours here and there. Might just work a wonky schedule, or the job was let go. IIRC they were having a hard time being able to pay deputies, much less a person working the evidence counter.

I'd pull a Terminator on them. A'll be back.

You know if you drive there they are going to tell you you have to come back. If you can talk to someone there, tell them you have to drive a very long distance and could they actually touch it so you know it is there. Good luck.

You may be out of luck... depending on their policy they may just have gotten rid of after 30 days of releasing it. I'd start with the PA's office, they'd be the ones that would have given the go ahead to release it. I know a lot of places auction stuff off after a certain amount of time...

UPDATE:

Have been in contact with the MCSO Evidence tech, he strikes me as a fair and squared away dude, and heard back from him today. The paperwork to release my property is in the system and has been approved once it reaches his desk he will call and we'll make an appointment to pick up my war belt.

We'll see how that goes.

Damn, I was hoping we were going to use force.

I hate to say this but maybe the system is going to work on this.

hey, I'm a criminal, they have to give my weapons back.

Next question is, will they release the contents of said warbelt–– In any event, I can't tell you how much this news is making me smile. Please post pics when you get it.

heard back from Mason Co SD, now apparently there is a review in progress and some "board" (hope it's not this one) has to decide what I can get back.

What illegal items were in said belt?

NADA, wouldn't carry illegal items in my car, that would be stoooopid. I leave those at other people's houses.

When I went to jail  in '98 and had my stuff finally released from custody after the charges were dropped to resisting,  the "evidence tech" got all snotty when I explained I wanted ALL of my property back not just some of it today and the ammo back next week since I didnt live locally. He said something to the effect, " You keep that up and I'll just hold all your stuff!". Fortunately for me the guy who came as my witness stepped up. " Hi there I'm Bret Benson, NWRed's attorney. Is there a problem here that I can help smooth out?" as he handed the guy his business card. The evidence tech turned right back around and started rounding up all my property minus the ammo which the attorney offered to pick up on my behalf. Hopefully you get your property back without any headaches or bullshit.
