In my never ending quest to destroy things it appears (or it doesn't appear actually) that I need a replacement monitor for my puter.

Anyone have broken down HP G50/G60/G70 AKA Compaq Presario CQ50, Presario CQ60 and Presario CQ70?

And/or where is the best place to buy replacements?

ETA - Do you think I could pull this off?

If you can't do it (it ain't as easy as it looks) there are people here that can. Also RE-PC has those parts. LMK if you want to to stop there today when I HAVE to go downtown.

What is RE-PC?

Figured it out.  I don't see many screens on their ebay store.

They sell used laptop and desktop parts.

It's sometimes a HUGE pain in the ass depending on the model.  That being said, your laptop doesn't appear too bad.  Just take your time and follow the steps.

My Gateway just decided that the power jack doesn't need to be attached to the motherboard anymore.

That's got to be one of Apple biggest features. I've lost 2 laptops to that same problem, and I expect my wife's Dell to have the same fate eventually –– the damn power jack sticks straight out the side. With my MacBook the kids can trip over the cable all they want, the magnetic power plug just pops off.

You might be better off just putting the money and energy twords getting a new computer. They aren't too expensive these days, and replacement screens that are of OEM quality are generally really expensive (a significant chunk of the original purchase price). Just my .02. But yeah, you could do it.

Sure, just don't forget to soak it in GunScrubber overnite first.

I punched out the screen on an IBM a few years ago. As retarded, er retahded, as I am about computers, I glommed a new upper off Ebay and fixed it myownself. Rest assured, if I can do it, anyone can.

Don't forget they are put together by underage children in countries that don't have the recipe for tin yet.  So it should be a breeze for you.  As Bobbity can attest to (Don't get your panties in a bunch, I'm just saying you can testify that it is easy to replace the screen.)

No panties were harmed (or involved, actually) in the repair of my laptop. It was much later in my career when I came out as Lady Gaga.

Replace the invertor while you have the screen off.

It may be the problem in the first place.

The problem is multiple cracks through the screen that resulted as the dogs decided to see how far it would fly.
