I had heard that Left Hand Canyon is closed to shooting due to "mud slides".  Does anyone know if this is true?  I really don't want to pack up my shit, drive there, and find out you can't shoot.  I am a member of an indoor range but want to shoot outside this weekend and do not want to drive to the grasslands or anywhere else, just Left Hand (it's the closest out door area to my house).

Anyone hear about it being closed?

Thanks,

MadDog

I haven't driven by there in a few weeks. Try Boulder County Dispatch, 303-441-4444.

Last I heard the entire area was closed until further notice.

I went up there today (lefthand canyon AKA little vietnam) and didn't see any no shooting signs.  I pulled up and it appeared to be open as usual.  I didn't stop because that place is so unsafe, well the people that go there are often unsafe.  We ended up trying a few more spots I know up off of HWY 72 (real close to HWY 7) and it was a good shooting day.  The park ranger came up and she talked to us for a while and let us proceed to shoot.  She was real nice and gave us some regs on shooting in the area.

Are you referring to the old Alanspark dump about 100 feet from the 7 & 72 intersection?  If so, that one is still closed down.  Let me check for the site we went to last time that is still open...

Thanks.
That was my regular shooting area, until it was shot down.

I went up a couple of days ago and the road is blocked off but you can walk up the road to the bend and still shoot.

I see that your video is titled "Left".

And while I've been to Lefthand Canyon, the place shown in the video appears (to me) to be somewhere different.

Is that LH canyon, or somewhere else

That looks like the lefthand I know. I usually throw all my stuff against that rock.

As to exactly where it is at skip to 11:45 in this video or if your rediculously bored the video starts on the far north end of Boulder.

The other video is from the  far end of the shooting area walking back
to the south towards where all the vehicles park against the wire rope.
essentially I was walking from right to left in this picture exactly
where the vehicles used to park before the wire ropes were installed.
(Same big assed rock to the right of the jeep.)

Perhaps you will recognize the area in its older state.

Ahhh, yes ... that makes sense now.

I was viewing it from the perspective of walking *into* a shooting area, rather than heading out.  That, and the fact the area seemed to be unusually clean.

Anyway, thanks for the feedback.
