Kaine will respond to Bush speech
www.roanoke.com/news/roanoke/wb/49171
Gov. Tim Kaine will deliver the Democratic Party's response to President Bush's Jan. 31 State of the Union speech. Shortly after Bush completes his annual address to a joint session of Congress, Kaine will deliver the nationally televised response from the Executive Mansion. Kaine's speech allows Democrats to showcase a newly inaugurated governor elected in a traditionally Republican state.

I have a bad feeling about Kaine

Aaaaaaaaaaand most likely he will mention somewhere about all the "wasted money, lives" being poured into the "quagmire" of Iraq when everyone knows we ought to be wasting (er, spending) it on "healthcare, education, and the environment" because as EVERYONE KNOWS, such programs are the ONLY way to win wars.

Honestly - it's always part of their playbook: bitch and moan about the "failures" in the GWOT, implying if not outright claiming that THEY ALWAYS HAD A BETTER PLAN and could have won it years ago.... then get hot and bothered about the hundreds of billions spent to date which THEY would have spent on their pet domestic issues.... without mentioning how doing so would accomplish anything foreign policy wise.

Kaine might say "it's sure wonderful that the Afghanis and Iraqis now have XXX miles of newly paved highways, but here in NOVA little old minority women have to walk 16 miles up hill both ways to fetch a pail of dirty water to bring to their starving chil'ren all because Bushitler chose to steal the widow's mite on war when it would have magically produced 4 lane highways here in VA".

OR he'll blame the GOP and Bush for all the problems under the sun, including hurricanes, heavily imply that Republicans are racist neanderthals incapable of being reasoned with whereas OBL and AQ merely need to be "understood" better and they'll break out into Kumbayas and hugs....and THEN rhetorically ask why the country is "so tragically polarized by this president who promised to unify and not divide" (as though the DEMS have only been holding out the olive branch all these long 5 years - and not, oh, say, keying cars with GOP stickers, shooting into GOP offices, slashing tires, intimidating voters, and generally acting deranged).

Look for Kaine to bring up religion too - as in "Bush claims to be a Christian but orders war on completely innocent people...we think we'd do a better job ushing in a loving utopia of interreligious harmony - why, look at our track record when dealing with such backward folk as the evangelical sect here in the USA?"

I expect to be patronized in one sentence and then denigrated in the next. Talked down to by someone I could give post-graduate courses to all while he's appealing to us as "one of the guys".

I can see it now "If Kerry were President they'd be magically breaking up terror cells without the NSA but rest assured loyal Americans, we'd have the FBI hot on the trail of the REAL terrorists; those nasty pro-lifers who annually invade the capitol to march, 250,000 strong up Constitution Ave in sub-freezing temps. THOSE are the Americans we ought to be spying on, not the wonderful folk here on student visas or those who may or may not be naturalized citizens who just so happen to be on AQs speed dial."

We'll be promised that with the DEMS in charge, Americans will once again be free to surf for kiddie porn....or plot terror attacks here on US soil all without any fear of Gov intrusion.

Only sort of...Kilgore wasn't much to vote for in the end was he? Which is worse the liberal clown who makes no apologies or a RINO who cant alienate his base fast enough? At least Mr. Kaine is a known quantity.

That doesn't make him any less of a [insert pejorative here].  Known quantity or not, we could have done better.

The race was Kilgore's to lose.

And he proceeded to make mistake after mistake and lose it.

I completely agree so why didnt someone credible run on the republican side? I still think its better to know someones intentions than to be blindsided which Kilgore certain would have done.

I guess we should have protested his inaugural celebration; you know - heckle the poeple going to the celebration dinners and dances, making an ugly scene like they did at President Bush's ianuguration. Except - wait, that's the sort of low-class thing that only mean-spirited liberals would do.

Looks like VA make be taking a turn to the left until we can return the Governor's mansion back over to GOP control where it belongs.
