Just won a gunbroker auction for a S&W M&P 40 LE trade in (apx 250 rounds down range) with 2 15 rnd mags.  Wife is PISSED and wants me to sell it.  Rather than sell the new toy, I figure I might try and unload some other stuff instead to make her happy??  I have a Benelli SuperNova 12GA with the comfortech stock and 26" barrel I would be willing to part with, as well as all the stock furniture from a StagAR.  Handgaurd, grip, stock, a few 30rd mags...etc.  If anyone is willing to make me an offer on anything that would be great...or give me a good excuse to keep it all that I could tell to a woman (that would work).

Wish me luck!

Be careful, don't want to piss the mods off by offering up items for sale in the wrong forum! (if you want to sell it list it in the EE, read the rules before posting there!)

hah yea true, but the problem is that I dont REALLY want to sell it.  Just wanted to throw it out there, maybe someone can give me a better line than "I bought this for YOUR safety", or "you cant put a price on safety"

My wife doesnt fall for that anymore...after the ARs and a few glocks shes learned that these "accidental" gunbroker buys are really intentional.

Oh ya, that'll work!  She'll be more pissed about you saying that, to the point that she'll forget that you bought the pistol.

What ever you did to let her know you bought it was your first failure and the outcome of these events is on you for that. My suggestion, is to put it in the back of the safe and don't say anything and don't touch it till the snow melts. By then it will be an old memory forgotten.

Offer to work some extra hours, take a PT or side gig or cut some extras to pay it off.

If it is more than a money issue then you have bigger problems

Tell your lady that the gun is an investment and when the time is right you will sell it for a huge profit. After a few months she'll probablly forget about it.

Tell her you didn't really want it but the safety of your family was worth the small expenditure.  explain it as you made an increase in your families life insurance coverage.  If that doesn't work, tell her to mind her own business unless she wants to be scrutinized for every shoe/hand bag purchase she ever makes.  (disclaimer:  i'm divorced so maybe my advice sucks)
In all seriousness, what's her issue with the purchase?  Is it a monetary issue or is it a fear of firearms?  If it's a fear of firearms, a little education in that area goes a long way to ease those fears.

I didn't try to scare my wife into shooting but educated her and worked with her at her pace to get her comfortable having "numerous" defensive options.

If you are going to try to talk it out come with some solid reasons or you are going to be on the loosing end of this one. I'd suggest you plan to take her out to get her own.

Its a "Why do you need ANOTHER gun" problem.  But really...my collection has only just begun.

I think its funny to see what everyone has for "advice".  I posted this being somewhat facetious...but she really wasnt happy.  Not about to walk out the door and never talk to me again, but almost made me sleep on the couch.  And at the end of the day, I got a sweet deal on the gun, and it looks like I have a buyer for my Benelli (which I was going to sell anyways).  So I think it all worked out...

a good amount below the actual value of the gun...lets just say that.  I could easily make a $100 tomorrow if I sold it.

Good articles...thanks!  And I've been trying for a while to get her to carry.  Every once in a while she goes for the idea, and then the next morning shes changed her mind.  I will get her a pink kel-tec or something in a new purse sometime and save the day!
