It's a bit troubling to me that Bob Riley's web page really doesn't say anything about his views on the issues.

That's not exactly true.  If you look here, you can read what his website says about the issues.

On a side note, he is also endorsed by the NRA.

From October 2006 American Rifleman:
Gov. Bob Riley is a strong ally of gun owners.  As a congressman he voted against the Clinton gun ban and later to repeal it.  Gov. Riley has shown an unwavering commitment to preserving our firearm rights.  In his first term as governor, Bob Riley has consistently stood-up for gun owners' rights.  In 2006 he signed Castle Doctrine legislation, which protects our right to self-defense.  Gov. Riley has earned the votes of gun owners.

And Big Luther's tall, but Little Jim has four shotguns.

Did he buy them just for the election or did he already have them?  Does he actually use them or just use them for vote props?

Billion Dollar Bob is not known in his hometown of Ashland, Al as being a long time bird hunter. I asked him to help repeal the ban on SBS and SBRs. See any effort on his part there?

The NRA will support any incumbent who says he owns or used to own a gun. Moore was a bigger gun supporter that Billion Dollar Bob ever thought of being. Heck voting against the AWB was the only thing he could do since he was not a black demoncrap from B'ham and even the one then voted against it.

Billion Dollar Bob is simply the lesser of two evils, one a putz and one an idiot who would be nothing if she used her current husband's name.

As for Strange, he is a lobbyist and pushed hard for Billion Dollar Bob's tax increase.

As for Folsom, the less said, the better.

None of those 4 are even worth taking time out of one's day to vote for.

if you had listed the libertarian candidates, or even Beerslayer, I would have voted, I find none of these listed people worthy

as to Riley's campaign drivel, he put out a position book during the last election and none of it indicated he had intentions of attempting to raise taxes or create new spending programs, much less impose the largest tax increase in Alabama history along with the largest government spending increase for new handout programs ever proposed in Alabama history, so anything he says now wrt his campaign promises is certainly suspect and without credibility

as far as I am concerned, when he switched parties from democrat to republican years ago he did so in name only, not by policy, or at least the ones he attempts to enact...

To be honest, most Alabamians subscribe to what political scientists call the "populist" types of thought: socially conservative but willing to support various types of statism.

In Congress, Riley got excellent ACU ratings and very good RLC ratings, but to get votes from the folks who aren't so conservative and have probably never heard the word libertarian he can't come out during general elections and tell the populace that he will slaughter their sacred statist cows.

We can count on Riley to generally wax populist more than he believes, and for political reasons even let his grip on conservative principles slip. But generally he is an honest and conservative choice.

Baxley, in contrast, seems to actually believe the statist nonsense she believes. And Folsom has the support of none other than ARFCOM's great friend, Howard Dean.

If Riley is the best the GOP has to offer, i am ill.

With a few exceptions, the GOP basically sucks. Their only benefit is that they are the lesser of two evils. It high time for a viable third party, nationwide. We need people who will defend our country and our rights, not spend our great grandchildren's money. Problem is, there's to many "victims" out there wanting the gov't to give them something for nothing. We've basically become a spineless, candy assed nation and I fear that it's to late to turn it around.

Even if the GOP sucks, Even if you don't like Riley, Even if the vote is for the lesser
of 2 evils, Even if you don't like the way the war in Iraq is going, a vote for a conservative is still better than a vote for a liberal or just not voting.
Our country is in a mess, for sure, but why? IMO most of our problems can be blamed
on Liberal Politics!! Why are we being overrun by illegals? because America is the land
of the Social Services Free Ride!!!! How do you feel about Religion, Abortion, Gay Marriage, Gun Laws or the Moral Decline of our society? Look at what LIBERAL Hollywood and the Media is doing to our country, they are glorifying Homosexuality, Gangster Rap,
Drug and Alcohol use and Promiscuity. How do you think the rest of the world sees our country? The Muslims,Communists and Dictators don't let their people see Andy Griffith,
Fox News or CMT....They're watching CNN, MTV & Jerry Springer.
Liberal College professors are corrupting and misguiding our youth and the leaders of tommorrow, look at what happened to the Minutemen at Columbia Univ. - and where,
pray tell was the ACLU to defend they're right to Free Speech?
America is sitting back and letting our country, which was founded on a Strong Moral and
Spiritual Character, be slowly corrupted and destroyed by the Liberals...
We, as Conservatives, as Christians, as Gun Owners, as Taxpayers, as the Salt of the Earth and as the backbone of our economy and society need to take a stand before it's too late!!!!!
....sorry, I'll come down from my soapbox now...But please vote, even if you think it's
for the lesser of 2 evils, Vote!!! If you think it's bad now, just wait until the Democrats get in office......+++=

...  Sorry, but i remember how the dems ran this state over the years...

You're putting that in the past tense (and I'm sure you're talking more about the Executive Branch) but don't forget that, even as "conservative" as Alabama is in general,  the Dems still have total control over our State Legislature... as they have for my whole life.

I can't help but believe that getting rid of some of the entrenched Bedfords, Barrons, Holmes, etc. might help, at least a little bit.

Only way things will change is if the Black Caucus is disolved and it's members voted out of office.

I am honestly conflicted this time.  As time goes on, I *TRULY BELIEVE* that my options are only poor ones.  I don't like any of them.  I don't think any of them represent our state, much less me.  I'm gonna vote, but it's just choosing crap in one hand and piss in the other.

Same here. It's no longer picking the right one, it's the lesser of two evils.

As Wallace said "there isn't a warm bucket of spit of difference between the twp parties" and that is true in Bama. No honest per will go into politics in Bama.

At the federal level, a few differences, guns, pervert marriage, abortion and terrorism but that is all.

To heck with them all
