I'm looking to have the top of my anvil milled. The face is actually pretty flat and in good shape but if I can get it done for a good price i'll have it done. Not to mention having an idea as to cost so I can keep that in mind when looking over other anvils (can't have too many).Anyone know of a good inexpensive job shop in or around Dodge county?

Any of you guys do blacksmithing?

I might be able to do it depending on the size.

How big and how heavy?

Too bad you were not in the greater Green Bay area. I have 2 VF1, a Super VF-2, and a dozen bridgeports on hand that are just looking for some projects for my students!

No weapons policy is a killer......I did manage to make a 5/8 bore cannon that weighs in at about 20 pounds while still a student. CNC cut from 4140 steel, and then blued. Turned out pretty nice!

Just a thought, but does the Moraine Park Tech along 151 have that sort of program/equipment?  If so, they may be able to do it for you.

Depending on how far you want to drive:

D J & R Mfg Inc, Lemke Dj&R Mfg , Inc
W3333 US Highway 18
Helenville, WI 53137-9610
Phone: (262) 593-8041

They're a mom and pop type machine shop not too far from me in the middle of Jefferson County. They do all sorts of odd jobs like that and might be an option. While everyone else was struggling with the economy, they have been expanding and just built a new building even.

A trip to Green Bay is not out of the question .My wife has family up that way.If your students need projects I have plans for a KMG grinder clone that I could stand to have made.I plan on picking up a lathe, mill, and surface grinder in order to add home machinest to my list of time/tool intensive hobbies.

The anvil is 2ft long 1 ft high. The face itself is 16x4.Not really sure as to weight. It's currently welded to the base in the pic and needs to be cut free. The base is made of 1/2 plate, very solid but acts like a giant metal megaphone (not my design).A more traditional wooden base is in it's future. In it's current state it took 3 big guys to lift into a truck.
