Let's keep the discussion on the Osprey and it's ability to be used on multiple guns of different calibers. I do not want this to be mistaken as an ad
I have not seen any other 45 suppressors that have that much reduction even on a 40 or 9mm plus they will cycle on the smaller caliber guns. Many people have been waiting for just such a suppressor. These numbers are great for a dry suppressor but the wet numbers are even more impressive. I don't think I will be shooting wet very often with the kind of numbers they are getting dry. Chris, we can talk more on the pistons next week when you come by. |

This shows what brand recognition does to people, I had never heard of the Osprey silencer company, so when I saw the title of this thread I thought it was going to be some internal Army video testing the V22 tilt-rotor's ability to survive enemy fire. I thought "Multi-caliber test, hmm, I bet it does decently against everything but 12.7 DSHK and that insane 14.2mm caliber..."
LOL But back on topic, can Ospery sell one can with multiple adapters without running afoul of BATFE's new ruling, as long as the adapters don't include a booster assembly? How are silencer manufacturers dancing around that pesky ruling these days? Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

Duke, my take on that situation is that technically the "new standard" should, and most likely eventually will apply to all manufacturers. But for now, since they've only raided YHM, it only, so far, applies to YHM's cans. Really, I can understand where the ATF is coming from on this. When the booster is unported one can reasonably argue that it is a "mount" part and not an integral part of the suppressor's ability to suppress the report. But once the mfr's discovered that porting the booster allowed them to utilize what was previously wasted space, and make their suppressors even quieter, well it was inevitable that sooner or later the ATF would "clarify" that ported boosters are indeed suppressor parts and not "mount" parts. MFr's that do not port their boosters should not have an issue. |

It is all depends on how the ATF feels when they are reviewing the mount/piston.
YHM ended up using a two piece thread mount on their M2 Cobra suppressors. To change threads you just remove the internal threaded mount and replace it with another thread mount. This leaves you with two place for the thread to come unthreaded when you are shooting. They have large wrench flats at the end of the mount which allows you to torque it down enough to keep it from backing off. |

Cool video! Please forgive a noobie question. Why is the first shot louder than the rest? Actually appears that they get quieter as they shoot. I didn't check the numbers, just my impression. But for sure, the first shot was louder.

So basically with that system you can buy two suppressors.
1 osprey multiple caliber Suppressor for pistol calibers. 1 30 caliber suppressor for rifles? Seems a good ways to equip yourself and save. |

The first round pop is when you shoot your first shot and it is louder than then follow up shots due to the burning of the oxygen that is in the air inside the suppressor. The suppressor will fill up with smoke from the burnt powder on the first shot so there will be much less oxygen to burn on the follow up shots which makes them much quieter. |
