Hey everyone, I'm gonna be moving up to Clarksville in the next few weeks and wanted some opinions. I'll be working at the Hemlock semiconductor plant for about a year and a half doing testing for my company. Since I'm not familiar with the area I'm concerned with finding a home or apartment to rent in a decent location. I'd like to avoid high crime areas and crowded areas if possible.  I'm not concerned with proximity to schools so that may help narrow it down a little. I'd also like to find a place that is furnished if at all possible if anyone knows of any rental agencies that offer that. Other than that I just want to say thanks and I look forward to living in beautiful Tennessee!!!

Shouldnt be hard to avoid high crime, its not that bad around here unless you hit those few blocks in downtown Clarksville...

Other than that, let me look into rental companies, im sure that there are some that do... just dont know off the top of my head... unless someone else knows?

Exit 4 is where the mall and most of the stores, our lil business area is, which i believe is the exit that they are putting the main entrance to the plant off of.  Personally, I would look off of exit 8 or 11, as thats the nicer side of town.

Ogreabroad  hit it perfectly on the locations. If you are looking for apartments there are some  complexes on the 41A bypass that are nice in several different price ranges. Feel free to email me if you have any questions.

The only thing I can really add, is that if you are coming in the next couple weeks you should be good to go, if it were the next couple months good luck.  101st is just starting to come home, and last time around it really shook up the real estate market for a while.  There will be a ton of people coming in and out, and it can get interesting.  When we moved here and bought our house we used THESE folks, our agent was Pat Powers, and we came away very satisfied.  I am pretty sure they do rentals too.

Cumberland Ridge

Autumn Winds

That first one is out off the bypass, a more industrial area... but not bad. (think industrial park, not smokestacks)  Its also right next to the river (on a bluff above it... they didnt flood in may) and also near some great rock climbing if youre interested in that.

The second one is nearby (3 - 4 miles away) the mall and commercialized area, but on the other end of the street from all of that.  It should be far enough away from the hooplah that its protected from the seedier side.

Both can offer fully furnished apartments, ranging in price from $500/month - $1200/month depending upon how many baths/beds/sq feet you want.  Of the two, I would recommend the first one.  You get the feel of somewhat privacy afforded by more rural living, while being minutes away from anything you might need... plus its cheaper... which doesnt hurt!  On the flipside, the 2nd one will give you about a 15 minute commute, while the first one is gonna be more like 25-30 minutes.

There are others in the area which would provide what you need, these are just a couple that came up on a quick search.

Also... for your shooting pleasure... your closest indoor range that I know of will be at exit 35 on I-24 at A.S.P. (clickable)

For outdoor, long range stuff... check this out... TRWA Range in Montgomery County, TN (clickable)

Look around exit 11 for rental homes.   There are a couple of rental agencies, but can't remember the names off hand.   Check the yellow pages here and you'll find'em.        Also, there is a decent set of apartments off 41A bypass down by Queen's Bluff.    There is also another set off exit 4 behind Logan's I believe.    Not too sure about them, but had some friends that lived in the ones of 41A and they were fine.

Good luck at Hemlock and welcome to Cville.

Yep, it's the first link.   They're fine.   Had some friends that rented a 3br while they were waiting on the condo to be done.  Lived there around 3 months and had no issues.   We would go over there often and everything seemed to stay quiet, clean, and neat.

Correction.  Drove by this morning and the sign said Vantage Point Homes FWIW....

Exit 11 (Sango) is nice.

Would be approx. 13 miles commute one way.

We are a little quieter/less busy than the rest of Clarksville.

Homes prices are a little higher, but that is because they are newer, and usually a little larger yard.

As for Apts., there are a couple of nice "Townhomes/Condo" back behind the MC Donalds (On HWY 76 at Exit 11) that rent out.

Not sure price.

There is another smaller Apt complexes on Madison St, going South past the Walmart. (This would add another 4 miles one way to the commute)

As mentioned the other Apt. Complexes, but then adds approx. 7 more miles one way.

We have not suffered in the housing crash as bad as everywhere else. If you bought a house, you might be able to make a profit when you sell. (Of course the data says that if you are not in a house 3 years before selling, you are 90% likely to break even).

Benefits to Sango area.

-Less likely crime––- a little less quiet

- Easier access to interstate (Meaning less traffic compared to trying to drive on HWY 79/Exit 4). Which is the exit you will take for work. (only you will go North instead of South where all the congestion is).

- Closer to Nashville (Not much, but a little)

When I moved here I was single and bought my house simply because the steady property value increase (% was higher than other areas of the city), better school district (Sango look up rankings), mostly upper middle class

If I was in your situation, I would look into renting a house, townhome, condo etc... if not wanting to buy instead of renting an Apt. I just hated living in an Apt. (To much BS, neighbors right on top of you, to loud, parking, trying to make sure you are home when maintenance workers are going to be there to check/fix something, spray for bugs, etc.... the "We had a noise complaint because you were watching TV at midnight, and the neighbor next door heard it thru the air thin walls". and so on...

I'd stay away from Honeycutt and Belew rentals.  I've never heard anything good about those guys.  Myself, I'd stay away from the downtown and New Providence areas.

Be aware, the parking lot at Hemlock is posted.  They do not allow individuals to keep so much as a cartridge in personal vehicles on the lots there.

Vehicles subject to search.

Have you had your safety orientation yet?  If you can stay awake for that whole thing, you are a better man than me.

Ok I think I've decided on a place, now I need opinions on cable and internet services. Who do you guys recommend?

where did you decide on?

As for cable/Internet, I have Charter... phone, cable, Internet. Prices are fair, and you can get a deal if 1st time connecting, or negotiating when 1st year is up.

In case wondering what to do tomorrow, there is a gun show in Hopkinsville, Ky tomorrow and Sunday.

There is a post in the KY HTF. Some members are meeting up for breakfast before attending.

I think I'm gonna go with Cumberland Ridge, Ogreabroad has it linked in one ofe his earlier posts. It looks to be a pretty nice place but I won't know for sure until I get up there tomorow and check it out.

Well, the search continues, I talked with cumberland ridge and a few other complexes and so far the cheapest I've found a furnished 1 bedroom is $1375. I could afford it, but I'd kick myself in the ass every month paying

out that kind of money. So now I'm thinking unfurnished for around $700 and buying my own furniture. At least then I'd be able to keep all the stuff I bought instead of just paying for their furnishings ten times over.

Another great place to look for furnishings is Fort Campbell Yard Sales... basically a local CL, with less BS

Sorry that the apartments didnt work out, best o luck man, and welcome to Clarksville!

If you live in city limits, the electric company also does tv, internet, and phone. The internet is great, 10 megs up/down. Rumor is they are bumping it to 20 megs. TV is pretty good. Don't have a home phone so can't speak to that. Cheaper than Charter. Plus Charter sucks.

But hey, the Bears lost, so now we save money, because the guy in the president's office isn't going to see the hometown team play in championship game.
