This isn't really new. He's been saying he won't sign anything having to do with guns unless he gets sent an AWB along with it. I know the bill protcting people that defend themselves legally from criminal charges was passed, but I don't think he signed it.

There have been AWBs brought up in both houses the last two years. Thankfully, they have never gotten out of committee.

I don't think they'll get anything passed without being sneaky, so we shouldn't stop watching.

You can check the status of bills, and even make your own list at the state legislature web site. It's pretty handy for checking the status of all bills having anything to do with guns all at once.

Yeah, what HE said. This makes no sense. In my case, I've been a law abiding citizen for all my life and now with a stroke of a pen I'm an outlaw?

If all the weapons owners in Illinois said "we ain't doin' it" can they jail us ALL? They got the room for that? They got the money? Costs quite a little bit to house prisoners, doesn't it? And for what? Because a bunch of people with no records whatever suddenly become outlaws over their choice of weapons?

Forgive the rant, please. I'm in a very bad mood this morning. See Illinois taxes and other costs have put my company in bankruptcy after 31 years. My dad( 68 ), mom (62) and grandmother (88) will all be moving in with me. I'm 47 and now unemployed. I have pkysical limitations that prevent me from being in the "real" work force. My family has worked around my problems but I doubt I can expect the same from any other employer. I am so screwed.

So, come and confiscate my guns? Bring it on.

Rant over. Thanks for listening....

Blago vetoes it, but the sponsors say they have the votes to over-ride his veto during the Fall veto session.

All things considered, we're doing pretty good. It hasn't gotten worse in the past decade, no matter how hard Daley tries.
Thank the "Greatest Generation" and the "Boomers" for the FOID and numerous local bans in the 70's-80's, enacted because they were afraid of armed minorities and were dumb enough to believe the politicians who said "these laws aren't for US.... it's for THEM".

"Senate Bill 2165 reaffirms what I believe is the real role of a citizen and that is that he has the right and some would say the duty to defend himself and his family in his own home," the bill's sponsor, Senator Ed Petka (R-Plainfield), said.

Although Petka wasn't optimistic about the bill's passage through the Illinois General Assembly three months ago, he was successful in shepherding the legislation through the Illinois Senate with a final passage vote on Tuesday.

The former prosecuting attorney proposed the bill early in the session in reaction to a Wilmette resident, Hale DeMar, who defended his family from a home invader with a handgun banned in his city.

"A person's home is their castle, and that is right that is part of the natural law," the sixteen-year veteran senator said. "It's the law of nature dealing with self-preservation."

SB 2165 says that an individual who uses a firearm in self defense in his home has an affirmative defense to charge he unlawfully possessed the firearm in his home, Petka told IllinoisLeader.com earlier this year.

The sixteen senators opposing SB 2165 were: Collins, Cullerton, del Valle, Garrett, Harmon, Hunter, Lightford, Link, Maloney, Martinez, Munoz, Obama, Ronen, Sandoval, Schoenberg, Silverstein -- all Democrats. Meeks (I) and Syverson (R) did not vote.

Governor Blagojevich suggested earlier this year that he would veto the legislation if it made it to his desk. 36 votes are needed for a veto override.

BlowO Did VETO this but I can't remember where or what happen with it... This was just some misc I found when searching on it.... BlowO said "SB 2165 this would encourage people to own firearms even if there where local ordanances against them" like they don't now!!!!

Most people I know with firearms don't even have FOID card. Criminal sure don't have FOID card / follow the laws etc. The FOID cards and all the STUPID gun laws only effect the LAW ABIDING SHOOTER. We have to follow the STUPID LAWS to the letter just incase we get pulled over for a low tire or something like that coming home from the range. This is what the DUMBO-CRAT'S fail to understand. Laws only effect the LAW ABIDING GUN owners......

Oh ya!! And come MONDAY EVERYONE will be installing 37MM launchers on there RED RIDERS! This maybe the end of the world!!!!! :-)

Here's the article from the Sun-Times about Daley and AWB.

Mayor Daley urged President Bush on Wednesday to put political muscle behind his campaign rhetoric and pressure Congress to extend the federal ban on "murderous" assault weapons before it expires next week.

With gun manufacturers already marketing military-style firearms and poised to sell them at midnight Monday, Daley wrote a letter to Bush and appealed to Chicagoans to do the same with members of Congress who would rather "run and hide" than confront a powerful gun lobby that fills their campaign coffers.

"Legislative leaders refuse to bring the issue to a vote. That way, assault weapons can become legal again, the gun lobby will be happy and nobody in Congress will ever get blamed. . . . The one person who can force this matter to a vote is President Bush," Daley told a news conference at police headquarters.

Republican leaders confirmed Wednesday that Congress will not vote on the ban.

Every bit as troubling to the mayor is a new federal law that allows off-duty and retired law enforcement officers to carry concealed weapons.

Daley called the law a "trial lawyer's dream" because of the liability questions it raises -- both for cities that once employed the retired officers and for the private companies that hire them once they leave the government payroll. He's asking the General Assembly to shield municipalities from liability.

"What if our police arrest someone with a gun who claims to be a retired or off-duty police officer in Nome, Alaska? How do we check that? Is the Justice Department gonna have a master list? . . . If he shows us his credentials, how do we determine whether they're valid? If we lock them up and he turns out to be a legitimate out-of-state police officer, of course he's gonna sue the Chicago Police Department. Why not? Everybody else sues 'em," the mayor said.

Fraternal Order of Police President Mark Donahue said the Illinois Police Training Standards Board is establishing a process for testing and qualifying those who retire "in good standing" after serving as law enforcement officers for at least 15 years.

"It's ludicrous for the mayor to state that someone with mental problems will be running around with a gun. The legislation addresses that. They have to qualify. And the liability question will rest squarely on the shoulder of the retiree," Donahue said.

Todd Vandermyde, a lobbyist for the National Rifle Association, said Daley's "temper tantrum" against retired police officers is the height of hypocrisy.

"Here you have guys who served honorably . . . and the minute they're out of uniform, they're no longer to be trusted. But, it's perfectly fine for aldermen to walk around carrying guns and for the mayor to walk around protected by armed guards. . . . The same guys who sit there on his detail -- the day they retire, they're no longer competent. That's an insult," he said.

As for the 1994 law that banned 19 types of assault weapons, but only for 10 years, Vandermyde said it was little more than a "piece of feel-good legislation designed to demonize, stigmatize and demagogue a whole class of guns and gun owners."

BSP, Illinois is a tough state to be in. I am a small business owner, so I know your pain with the IL tax mafia, it is unreal here. I hate Chicago like nothing else, those who believe Chicago keeps this state going economically are fools, it's the business owners in the suburbs that keep this state going. They have tries their AWB bullshit before, we can't be complacent, but it won't happen here.

As much as I want to relax, I know I have to keep on the situtaion every day. That is really sad isn't it? Men have fought and died in foreign countries to make sure we are free, and our own people try to take our freedom!

the AWB did only 1 thing DRIVE THE PRICE OF PRE BAN GUNS THRU THE ROOF !

the funny part of the AWB is most street cops DO NOT know what pre/post ban wepaons are
i guess if its black and evil looking it must be illegal ( no disrepect to law enforcement , they have hands full as it is)

some one tell BLAGO its political suicide to bring up the AWB

BTW who voted for BLAGO ? i mean seriously , no one i have ever talked to

I don't think Blago will push very hard for an AW BAN in IL. For the simple reason that so many manufacturers and parts suppliers are in IL that to enact such laws would effectively drive out JOBS and TAX revenue that Illinoia needs BADLY. I'm sure after Blago was elected Armalite showed him how much tax revenue is generated from the sale of firearms from IL manufacturers. Any law that prevented manufacturing would probably drive Armalite and Rock River across the river to Iowa and DSA, Model 1, and M&A up to Wisconson. I'm sure there are others that I've forgotten.

IIRC, Blago won the Demo Primary because ALOT of downstaters voted for him.
Seems Paul Vallas, who came from Springfield, was not popular down there.

Blago will be a 1 term wonder IF the IL-GOP starts offering younger, dynamic
candidates, not entrenched Old Guard like George Ryan and Jim Ryan, or
"moderate" RINO's like Topinka.

This is the common understanding but you couldn't be further from correct. If you think guns are even on the radar of politicians you are also wrong. No matter what politician, they are interested in bringing dollars back to their districts and if you think they are going to stand fast against Blago on a gun battle and ditch state funds, you are just wrong again. I think I have about had it with the downstate IL BS. Downstate IL is just as anti gun and just as pro gun as the rest of the state. I spend much time in Tennesse and North Carolina if you want to see some real Southern Democrats, go there. The problem in IL isn't the "north" nor suburban Republicans, the problem in IL is it's vast population of Babyboomers and minorities. Babyboomers refuse to face the fact that they have failed at just about everything they have tried. I see them day in and day out driving around in their Mercedes and BMW's with the most clueless dense look on their faces. I just saw one sitting in an Escalade shoving donuts in his mouth, he looked moments away from a grabber.

THE PROBLEM IN ILLINOIS IS THE 1960'S. THE PROBLEM WITH AMERICA IS THE 1960'S. Christ, turn on your televisions. The people of this state prefer to let the Daley family run it for 50 fucking years because "oh boy look at the preety flowers in Millenium Park"

Babyboomers disgust me, but norterhn IL Babyboomers really, really disgust me. If you are a Babyboomer and you think you are pro gun, you are kidding yourself. If you think you love the American way, you are kidding yourself. The 1960's plague this state from the Tyranny of the Daley family to the blindless self-entitled, greed and sheer, epidemic incompetance of the Babyboomer generation. Until they are all gone, we will never be free. I hope they realize what is to come to them from their children as a result of the condition they are leaving this country in for us to clean up.

Babyboomers, I'd like to congratulate you on letting your Communist school mates destroy this country, oh and for allowing a known traitor to run for the Democratic Presidential Ticket. I'd also like to congratulate you on the marvelous job you have done with:

Disney
ABC
K Mart
Enron
Ford
Motorola

Thanks for the frivelous lawsuits that have made health insurance almost an entitlement to the elite. Oh, and thanks for sopping up every last dime you could, pissing it away, and mortgaging your kid's entire future.

Most of all, thanks so much for what you have done to this country and it's Constitution. You should all be very, very proud of yourselves. I don't know about some of you X'ers out there, but I would NEVER EVER spit on a soldier, throw a rock at a soldier, run my pansy ass to Canada or come back from a war and acuse my buddies of being rapists and murderers so that their Communist captors can torture them more.

Be proud Babyboomers, you know that Steven Stills song "Chicago?" Remember the chorus "We can change the world." Well, good job, you sure did.

It's not the suburban soccer moms, it's not the suburban Republicans, it's your parents. Wake up Illinois.

Not all of anyone group is bad, I'm sure you're a good guy but put you all together with a little inertia begind ridiculous ideology, and you have what we have today. It's smart of you to not lump young folks as anti gun, because we are not. Even the close friends I have that are voting for the Traitor, support the sunset of the ban. Does John Kerry? Don't bet on this! I saw a news article today (can't remember the source) stating that Blowmebitch intended to push for an IL AWB during the fall veto session. You can bet your ass that he'll try to sneak something through on us.

I heard on NPR yesterday, I can't remember if it was Blago or Dick, that said; "If those people want to shoot those weapons, they should join the military". I wonder if they realize that "those" people seem to be current or prior LEO or military.

patriot73,
I agree with some of what you said, the baby boom generation did screw a lot of things up for us. But I have a couple of questions for you. What about the baby boomers who were in Vietnam crawling through tunnels killing VC in the name of mom, America and apple pie. Are they to blame as well? What about the ones who lobbied congress to stop the Gun Control Act of 1968? And if (God forbid), Illinois gets an Assault Weapons bill passed in the state, won't us Gen X'ers be to blame? I mean, after all it happened on our watch.
As far as the downstate versus upstate thing goes, you can't be serious. As far as I know, there are no downstate counties that have a C.A.G.E. (Chicago Anti Gun Enforcement)Unit like Cook County. If they tried that in my county, I gaurentee that we would have several thousand good ol' boys raising three kinds of hell about it. Up North? Totally different story. The latest I heard is that the CAGE unit is going around and confiscating guns from law abiding people who have simply forgot to renew their FOID Cards. What are you Northern boys doing about it? Complaining on some web site? Get real. You guys have to find a way to get the masses involved.
Regardless if we are from up North, or down South, we all are Illinoisians. Our primary duty is to inform the public of the truth, call and visit every Senator and Rep. we can, And show up to Springfield when the time comes with hundreds of our buddies. If we don't then we are to blame.

1st & only time I ever voted for a democrat. He made Ryan look like the flaming crook liberal he was!

That being said I recall all this talk about the down state democrats we're going to save us from boybitch. Looks like that didn't work.

Mega? As in the lower-maker?

They're in IL? If so, what part?

Do they sell direct? (May be worth a 'field trip', since I can buy rifle parts in neighboring states, local shops are never an option, and ffl transfers cost $20)

What about the ones who lobbied congress to stop the Gun Control Act of 1968? And if (God forbid), Illinois gets an Assault Weapons bill passed in the state, won't us Gen X'ers be to blame?

I gotta disagree with you, downstate IL has put up little to no resistance to Chicago's agenda as a whole. Voting no on gun bans doesn't, as I said really amount to anything. I have dire respect for Vietnam Vets. The only negative thing I can say about them is that they tend to think they were the only people who ever fought a war, which is babyboomer syndrome. I know of no major Babyboomer movement against the GCA of 68, I think they were busy protesting other things. Downstate IL has the wrong info on the north and all too often a sense of arrogance.

Number 1-it's the collar counties of northern Illinois that keep this state eating

Number 2 the major forces that fight the Daley machine, are in northern IL. There is a lot more to fighting Daley than just guns. If it weren't for us, the entire downstate region would have been over run by now. I'm glad the good ole boys in your county would raise three kinds of hell against cage, you'd also get three kinds of hurt in return. I don't like in Cook County, I live in Lake County. Lake and McHenry County IL are the most Republican, pro gun counties in IL. Cook County is an island, not to be acknowledged by us. I'd like to see how the "good ole boys" of East St Louis feel about gun control, that's down state right? I have nothing against downstate IL. But as a whole, downstate IL contributes very little to nothing in the IL gun rights battle. The battle is fought up here, by people who draw real political water. Not good ole boys raisning three kinds of hell cuz.

Welcome...

IL gets to fight the AWB, we're working on purging ourselves of the last bit of gun control in the state (CCW)...

Oh, well, there is the 48hr wait on pistols, but I've never had my recieving FFL get their license to the sender faster than that anyhow....

'Course, the Dems are going to propose an AWB here soon enough, fortunately it will go nowhere....

Is there something you know to support this-'cause I was thinking with Blago in charge and Daley in the shadows, an Illinois AWB was gonna' be a tough fight that we'd eventually lose...

Unlike many Boomers, we X'ers have a sense of ACCOUNTABILITY.
We're not going to trade our freedoms for Social Security checks.

We've beaten the bastards so far. If Daley The First had wanted to, he could've pushed statewide gun registration and gotten it along with the FOID in the 70's. The boomers were too busy mowing their lawns and ramming more Union Contracts down their employer's throats to worry about RKBA.

We'll beat the bastards. We're motivated, involved, pissed off and too smart and cynical to be fooled like our parents.
The Gen X slogan should be, "Not one step further, guys".

I am pretty sure this is refering to Megasports in Plainfield www.megasportsfirearms.com/ - they are by far the best gun shop I've found out here in IL at least for firearms because they beat everyone's prices on firearms by a good margin (ex. my husband bought his Para PXT SSP at JR shooting sports and paid $200.00 more than I paid for mine at Mega), their ammo and accessories can be a bit high compared to some places, but I support them anyway because they've got great prices on the guns. I didn't know that mega carried parts, but if they did happen to get in AR receivers etc. I'd be there in a heartbeat.

I ordered my AR-10 lower and internals from MegaSports. They'll take care of you. And I agree with Atavist. Their prices on guns are really good, but they get you on the accessories.

Whoa ho, the battle between North and South, dare I say another Civil War? I doubt it. I hate to say this, and ruin your picture of the South, but you are wrong. Down here in the South, we ain't as backward as you Northern boys might think. You say raisin' 3 kinds of hell will get us 3 kinds of hurt? Then guarantee we'll come back with 9 kinds of hell and hurt in return. You say that the major fighting forces against the Daley "NORTHERN" bags of shit are in the North, we may not have as big a role in the face to face fighting as you Northern boys do (that I do not know), but behind the scenes, the phone calls to our representatives and senators, the fliers, the very important word of mouth to those that are misinformed, the sportsmans events, the gun shows that are always packed full, the letters that we send to our representatives, the face to face confrontations in Springfield and anything else I can't think of at the moment. Also, i'd just like to say that contrary to popular belief, there are no good ol' boys living in East St. Louis. But, there's a shitload of them in the surrounding area. I'm under the assumtion that your Vietnam Vet crack is aimed at the liberal bag of shit that's currently running for president, so I won't respond to that. Instead, I'll leave with this, the problem isn't just north, or isn't just south. It's Chicago, Decatur, East St. Louis, ect..... the problem is the misinformed and the duped, the Kerry lovers, and the idiots that vote straight tickets, instead of looking at the issues, and deciding from there. Keep everyone informed, make your voice be heard.

I don't believe that I have heard such BS since the Democratic National Convention. Are you serious? The collar counties "feed" the rest of the state? Just out of curiosity, since you are feeding us downstaters, how many bushel of corn are you getting per acre? How many head of hogs and cows is your county producing? Trust me hotrod, downstate Illinois not only feeds the state, but the rest of the world. And let me clarify something. When I refer to Northern Illinois I'm not really referring to all of No. Illinois, just the Northeastern part. In other words, Cook and the collar counties. That part of the state continues to push its left-wing, pro-gay, affirmative action, anti-gun, high taxes, pro-UN, socialist agenda on the rest of the state. Don't believe me? There are 102 counties in Illinois and see how they all voted in the last election. Downstate overwhelmingly supported Bush. But no matter how hard we try we can't outvote Chicago.
All you have to do is look at the state senate and house records to see where all the anti-gun bills originate from. It sure as hell doesn't come from down here! All the anti-gun lesiglation is always proposed from some Northeastern Ill. piece of shit. Like I said, you all have the numbers to do something about it. If you are so damn powerful, why don't you clean up your own backyard first and get rid of Daily? I'll make a bet with you. The next time the Northern Senators and Representatives get a bunch of anti-gun bills going like they did in 03, I'll bring my boys up, and you bring your boys down. We'll meet in Springfield to rally at the capitol, just like last time. The bet is that I'll have more people there representing our county per capita than you will. Willing to wager? Talk is cheap. And in the meantime, we will both be helping out our mutual cause. Are you game?

I think he means economically, this is more of an attack on Chicago I think because most people who work in the city drive from the burbs. There is no disputing that Illinois south of Chicago feeds the country.

Downstate democrats hurt us in that they give their party control of the committees. We can't kill things there as effectively as we could with a majority--some of you doubtless recall a couple years ago when Madigan "reconvened" a committee with members he picked to get some anti gun bills to the floor for a vote. In this respect, patriot is correct.

Downstate legislators, be they democrats or republicans, are very much distancing themselves from the Blago-Daley machine for one overwhelming reason (as patriot said) MONEY. A disproportionate amount of coin is going to Crook county, and downstate wants no part of that reputation. Blago is very much seen as governor "in abstentia" (witness his nearly 50% downstate DISAPPROVAL rating). In fact, my Republican senator told my mom (a local newspaper reporter) that the downstate dems had formed an informal alliance with the repubs to combat this crap. They don't want Blago's reputation, period.

A few names, FWIW:

Southern Illinois Democratic friends:
House:
Michael K. Smith (D-91)
Kurt M. Granberg (D-107)
Steve Davis (D-111)
Jay C. Hoffman (D-112)
Thomas Holbrook (D-113)
Dan Reitz (D-116)
and a good first term friend
Brandon Phelps (D-118)

Senate:
William Haine (D-56)
Larry Woolard (D-59)

There are plenty of pro-gun Dems in Illinois, and we would be lost without them.
