Is anyone else getting real sick of people everywhere else in the nation that seems to think they know what people are like down here, or what the social structure is like down here giving their $.02 about Katrina as if it is fact? It's starting to piss me off. I can't believe some of the things said about my fellow New Orleaneans here on ARFCOM and in the national media. At first it was heart breaking but now it is just infuriating! You don't know us, so stop it with all the stereotypes. The rumor mill about looting, shooting at helicopters, etc.. is so out of control. If you aint here right now or have ever lived here then STFU because you just don't know! And no, going to NOLA for mardi gras, a convention, or just having a friend down here does not qualify you. And for the record I have lived in NOLA my whole life except for college and a short stint in Pass Christian, MS.

There I just had to get that out.

well, i was only born in marrero and lived in lafourche parish for 7 years. i do have two uncles and an aunt on the west bank and have visited for extended periods for the last 20 years. granted the media does blow alot of shit out of proportion, but word of mouth from uncles and aunt is that there is alot of dumb asses and dungbettles across the river in the ninth ward. one uncle witness vietnamese man beat down by a half dozen blacks.orleans police would not respond. not their problem, blah blah. it's cool to be from that area and visit family and experience the culture i was born in, but fuck living below sea level surrounded by people who would just as soon shoot you as piss on you. new orleans needed an enema.

and i do know that ninth ward is not all of new orleans, but a part nontheless.

a hurricane isn't going to solve any social problems you may perceive. To think so is ridiculous. I know it sounds cute to you when you say "new orleans needed an enema" but you sound retarded. I know you know better than that. The entire gulf coast needs an enema according to people of your ilk.

my ilk? sorry pal, but you don't know me. anything else i would say would be unproductive here.

New Orleans, by and large is a cesspool, moreso now that tehre's the standing water to affirm that. I'm not upset or disheartened one bit by the damage to that town and I can not feel sympathy for people who willingly chose to live in a known death trap full of Socialists. I could make good money right now working down there fixing stuff, but I'm not because I detest that city.

Sorry if you don't like it, but New Orleans was a lost cause before the storm. Why the hell should my hard earned tax dollars go to rebuild houses and infastructure for a bunch of ingrates who want to sit on their ass and suck off the gubment tit?

You know what an asshat you sound like?

There are plenty of fine folks in New Orleans, but you think that everyone is a a resident of the Ninth Ward.

Sorry, but some of us are familiar with a part of genteel society in New Orleans that makes Manhattan look as if it were still an Iroquois Indian village.

I suppose if all you know of New Orleans was what you vaguely remember from a night out with the boys during Mardi Gras....

Do you live here and have to deal with this issue? No, you live in TX and "know someone from here" which makes you some sort of expert right? I live here and have to deal with these people, so yes I do get to voice my opinion. If you don't like it go cry me a river. They chose to take a gamble and live in a known death trap and they lost. Now I'm supposed to feel sorry for them? Not gonna happen.

If I'm not mistaken, ETH is either from here, or lived here for a considerable amount of time.

That being said, I do agree that a good portion of New Orleans was populated by filth. However, nobody deserves to go through what those people have been through. Darwin has his ways of taking care of the asshats, but your city flooding and wiping everything out and killing everyone isn't the way to do it. I do feel sorry for them. .It just pisses me off the way they treat the people who are honestly trying to help them.

La native and family still there. Lived in Metairie 2 years, robbed twice, and left. Cousin walked out of Antoines, walked to Royal, hit over head with coke bottle and robbed. Friend's brother got out of car with family, a guy walked up and shot him, took wallet, and left. Last visit stayed in Ponchatrain, guy in front said don't leave car there , I listened, next morning another car that was in the exact spot just to left of front door had windows broken. When I lived there, if a car was left on interstate between Slidell and NOLA, it would be stripped in hours per Picayune writeups. Crime ridden city.
