Is this true? I know all about NYC but I thought that it would be honored every where else in the state. I don't have a carry license and I'm not sure I'll be getting one but this was news to me!

A Pistol Permit issued by any County of New York State is valid everywhere in NY State except the 5 boroughs that comprise New York City.  There is no basis in law for the claim that it is not valid on Long Island (Counties of Nassau & Suffolk).

Unless you applied for a premises license you will be issued a carry concealed license although it might be administratively restricted to target/hunting/fishing/hiking/camping etc. It is valid throughout NYS with the exception of NYC (unless approved for carry by the NYPD Licensing Div.).

I have heard the same thing. In a friend's pistol license package there was a statement saying he couldn't carry concealed in those counties. BTW, this license was for "to, from and during Hunt, Hike, Camp, Fish" concealed carry.

What county?

Maybe since its restricted to hunting, camping, fishing etc, his county feels that these things can't be done on Long Island so there is no reason to carry here?

Info supplied with the Rockland County pistol license stated not to carry in Nassau or Suffolk. This was back in 1998.

The investigator told me that Nassau and Suffolk were the ones that didn't recognize pistol licenses issued outside of LI. I guess they feel if NYC can do it so can they.

I don't remember seeing that in my packet, but that was a while ago.
