Has anyone happened to come across a good M1 in any local shops? I am very weary of buying one over the net. I'm not looking for a $1,500 collectible, just one I can shoot on occasion and keep for future generations, looking to spend between 600 and 800. I looked at the Civilian Marksmanship program but the only Garands they have were loaned to the Greek army or something so the condition is questionable.

thanks in advance!

CMP is the way to go. I have a Greek grand from them. All USGI parts but the stock. For $325 and works great. Can't get a better deal.

For mine I went to the CMP north store in Ohio and pick it out. But even if you mail order it. Just pick the grade you want from CMP. IT will work from cmp and if it doesn't they will take care of the problem.

Yea, I was looking last night so I will probably end up going with them. Filling out the order form now actually, just wanted to check here to see if anyone saw some deals locally.

thanks

Shooter's Discount in Mt. Airy had a few M1 Garands and carbines in stock last time I was in there. (410)795-3720 is the number, ask for Lou the owner.

Lou does have some nice Garands, but his tend to be a little on the pricy side. I would really look in to the CMP. For $900 you could get an original "like new" HR garand.

Update: just ordered 1 from CMP, hopefully will get here soon and I'll post pics.
