Today I got the chance to do some shooting with a 9mm pistol on a manufacturers test firing range. Having not shot pistol for some time I was worried I might be rusty and embarrass myself in fron of my host who has a very "specialist" background. But I did ok.

Only thing is though, it really reminds me of how much fun it used to be and how much I miss it !

Agreed.. having got my FAC back earlier this year after a 12 year gap, I am really enjoying shooting again (I've maintained my SGC in between for a bit of sporting). but it does remind me that I miss pistol.. I've been toying with the idea of a LBR (or even the 1911 .22 that was in one of the mags last month).....but as usual there is too much of a gap between what I'd like to do and what I can finance ... esp when I haven't yet got my act togther to fill the slot I do have for a .223.. (which I'd like to be an AR from Mr Bradley if he ever answers my PM )

The real nightmare scenario for us danes would be if the danish politicians began suggesting a ban... Then again, once the incompetent cyclopic fool you have for a PM goes, you really ought to start lobbying for a reinstatement of handguns for competition. If the authorities had done their job decently, Dunblane and Hungerford would never had taken place. It's a problem everywhere they have taken the "One flew" path of psychiatric treatment: patients are not properly supervised and when they don't take their medicine, they flip.

What PM's that then?

last month.. 6th or so.. just after Bunnyassasin posted pics of the Spikes upper with your lower.. no sweat though, its given me another month to save the hard earned.. If you can't find it. I'll re-send/ post.. but essentially was after a suggestion/ price for a mid-range .223 for all-round use (bit of PR, bit of vermin etc) with an additional .22LR upper (spike's looked good, but I don't have any exp. of them, so please suggest an alternative if you think something else is worth considering).

I got my first ticket just before the pistols became Section 5........

I really enjoyed the short time I had shooting pistols........and sorry, but I'll never accept that we should just move on Tyga...... it was an infringement of liberties with an unjustified change in law...... agree to it once and it will happen again. It's about the principle of the whole thing.

Hi Gents. I am curious. Is there any special interest groups lobbying for UK gunlaws to be changed??
Is there any possibility to reverse a UK ban on private ownership of guns. Also what is allowed not allowed.
I am not tryng to offend . Truly just curious.
I live in NY state in the US and between liberal pols. in my state and in the White House (ironic name now)
our freedoms and constitution are in grave danger.
Best regards

No problem Ray - you'll find us a friendly bunch on the UK board (just don't take anything too seriously; some of us have a weird sense of humour!)

Gun laws in the UK are pretty draconian. Semi auto is not allowed in rifles in any other calibre than .22 rimfire. As a result of this, alll of our 5.56 ARs are straight-pulls. Semi auto centrefires were banned after a lunatic went on the rampage with a Kalashnikov and killed 16 people.

Bolt action rifles are OK and you can pretty much have whatever calibre you want. Likewise suppressors are ok and are actively encouraged from a "health and safety" point of view.

All handguns other than standard air pistols and black powder revolvers are section 5 - which means you need a very good reason to have one; such as humane dispatch of animals hurt in traffic accidents. Handguns were banned after a man who should never been given a license killed a class of school children and their teacher.

Shotguns are permitted in semi-auto; but are legally considered firearms if they can store than two rounds in the magazine.

Realistically, there is no chance of repealing the ban on pistols or semi auto centre fire rifles. The liberal media over here love to sensationalize anything and everything to do with guns. Despite the fact that criminals continue to illegally possess guns and kill people, the government still thinks that responsible citizens can't be trusted (even though all of their bodyguards are armed).

I am sure that if I have made any mistakes or omissions then one of my learned associates will correct me!

Thanks for all the info Blackknight1974. No worries .......I have a twisted sense of humor and appreciate a good jab or two.Plus any place that produced bands like Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden and Judas Priest will always have my respect......
I didnt realize you could own rifles and shotguns at all!!! I was under the impression that it was airguns and maybe .22 rimfire only. In NY state we have alot of gun laws that are more restrictive then other states but you can own pretty much anything short of full automatic weapons. Now say the state of Arizona. You as a private citizen can with proper paper work own full auto weapons. My wife has family out there and everytime we visit I hit the range with my wifes cousins and shoot AK47s,M16s and I got to shoot the M249 belt fed squad automatic in 5.56 cal. once too.
The politicians here in my home state are working overtime to take away our rights here but some grassroots orgs. with help from the NRA and also letter righting, e-mails and phone calls have had some effect. Sadly its a never ending battle.

Hope all over on the otherside of the pond is well and keep up the good fight.

yea I must admit I love shooting pistols out here in Spain, switzerland is good fun too as is germany so im told. we can only do .22lr her in spain but for work you can get a full pistol license (for things like judges, cash in transit or any one in a high risk profession once passing a 6 month course and an exam)

I am actually pro firearm legislation but for the UK not to have a .22lr pistol section on the FAC is a joke.

re getting out pistol rights back....I have an idea

we need a european firearm association (with millions of members and some seriouse teeth, bigger than the nra)

then lobby to create a single firearms license recognised all over the eu (similar to the driving license), it would have to have a .22 pistol section and the UK would have to fall in lign with the eu legislation

only problem with this is it would need unity of the EU countries (Germany/Switzerland would never restrict their pistols to only .22 competition shooting).

That doesn't mean i wasn't shooting! I first shot a firearm when i was 6, and went down to the club most weekends after that with my dad, and shot .22 pistols. So i had 3 years of pistol shooting.

We just need to enjoy what we still have. There is still lots of fun shooting out there to do!

Off Topic but does Vickers(I think that was his name) still do all the Sec 5 gun hiring for the reenactments?

The funny thing is, that it's about as difficult to get a supressor in the U.S. as it is to get firearms in the U.K. But I can go right now and after a 20 minute wait at my local FFL's place and a NICS check I can walk out with just about any firearm I want in any caliber I want, as long as it's .50 caliber or smaller.

Does that make any sense? A supressor that's more tightly regulated than a firearm? Silly I tell you.

The problem is that over here, guns are so controlled and ranges are so few and far between, that the average person has very little contact with guns. In order to possess anything other than an air rifle, you have to go through a lengthy paper chain, involving references, doctors etc etc - this actively puts off most people. In fact in most cities it is probably no harder to get your hands on an illegal gun as it is to go through the application process.

As a result, the media likes to paint every gun owner as an unbalanced loner and on the rare occurrence that a legally held gun is used to commit a crime; the media has a field day. - despite the fact that illegal guns are used in crime nearly every day. Hell, it's illegal to possess a replica (toy) gun in a public place!

When some of my friends have seen my ARs; the first question they ask is: "is that legal?" - such is the ignorance regarding firearms in this country. Perhaps if mystique around guns was dispelled and the government promoted shooting as a sport (rather than tried to suppress it); then the attitude would change - however there is zero chance of that. I help out at a clay shoot and have taken lots of my friends with me so that they can have a go - and once they get past the "it's a gun!" mindset; they start acting like an adult and thoroughly enjoy themselves.

Ho hum...
Link Posted: 7/30/2009 11:05:04 PM EST
Same attitudes prevail here in little flat Denmark but only when it comes to city folk, we're traditionally a farming nation so shotguns and hunting is widely accepted and used in the countryside. Handguns (and AR's) are another matter though...
