I'm so pumped.  I've asked for a knife for my birthday and for Christmas for the last 4-5 years.  I must have whined to Tony [remember my rent a kid from a few weeks back] and Tony put a care package/birthday package together for me.  I got it last night.

Tony's is in Canada hunting so I can't even thank him.  His Mom dropped it off.  I opened the package and pull out a really cute GSP coffee mug.  I love the mug.  Pat [Tony's Mom mentioned that Tony bought this with his own money so I'm just loving the mug!  Inside of it Tony packed it with Shotgun shells, travel TP [] an emergency blanket [which I've always wanted] and there was this box that I thought just had something similar to the blanket/TP in it but its a very nice Buck Knife!

I can't wait until he gets home from Canada to thank him!  Patty

That's so thoughtful, especially for a young boy! Happy Belated Birthday, Patty!

Excellent. Now make sure you send him a penny in return.

Is that how it works?
My Grandmother always taped a penny to any bladed item she gave me as a gift.
She said it was an offering so as to "not sever the friendship"
Maybe it was her own version...

What is the correct history of the penny?

Legend says you cannot give someone a knife or they will cut themselves.

So you sell it to them for a penny and all is right.

ETA: and don't marry a redhead because when she gets mad she will throw you down the well (i know a few of these oldies).

Old superstition/wives tale that if you recieve a knife as a gift, you must exchange a penny, or else the knife will severe the friendship.
