a Springfield model 67 series c 12 ga I have had for 25+ years. A while back i mentioned this firearm in a thread here that someone referenced a gun they had torn down and weren't sure how to re-assemble it. This shotgun of mine had a broken firing pin, so I tore it apart years ago(maybe 10). It lay in a box,in our damp basement for all that time because I could not locate a firing pin. The IAHTF thread motivated me to dig out the gun and get looking into it. I located what was listed as a firing pi for a S[ringfield model 67,series-c on Numrichs site. $6.50+ $6.75 shipping and I had... the firing pin for a Savage model 67c. Different animal. Oh well. I then took my broken piece, scrounged up some 1/4' inch mild steel round stock and went to work making one. I used hand files and a small benchvise, cut and shaped a firing pin to match what I had, except of course, I made in one piece instead of the broken 2 pieces I have.
I reassembled it, pretty damn proud of that task, adjusted averyyhing. That involved dis-assembly and re-assembly about 10-15 times and then took it to the range.
Happy to report that it now goes BANG when the trigger is pulled and functions as it should. It looks like absolute hell though, I removed the rust and the finish on most of it.
Now I need to refinish it. Thinking about cerakot, durakote or something like that.Don't want to do that myself,no facilities suitable. I might just hit it with rust-oleum high heat paint and call it good. I am pretty sure I should also heat treat the firing pin I made too. That won't be as hard as it sounds. Mapp gas torch and a chargoal grill can be used for that.
