As I write this, I think I just answered my own question, but I figured I'd ask anyway. We all discussed many times already that M1 Carbines are all illegal in New Jersey but I then came across the IAI M888 Carbine. It's a knock off of the original USGI M1 Carbine. I came across a few message boards where people were saying this gun is actually New Jersey legal because it's not an actual M1 Carbine. It sounded pretty good to me until I found a picture of the receiver........... it says

Us Carbine
Cal 30 m1

With those markings on the receiver I'm now thinking that this gun probably won't work in NJ.

Any thoughts?

A little update. I may have gotten some wrong info on the wording on the receiver. It might actually say,

Us Carbine
Cal 30 ML

And if that's the case, I think it may be legal after all...... I'm going to look into this some more and see what I come up with. Maybe there might be a way for us Jersey people to get some kind of M1 Carbine type rifle after all. But I won't hold my breath.....

What does the schematics look like compared to an M1 Carbine? If the parts are interchangeable, I would say that it would not be legal in the eyes of the almighty.

The parts are interchangable. But then again, the parts of an AK47 are interchangable with our NJ legal SAR's. I'll let you know if I get any other information.

Legal or not, good luck finding a NJ FFL dealer to do the transfer.
