Anyone interested in competing in a friendly campfire cooking competition? I thought we could limit the entries to chili, stew, chicken-and-dumplings, or any other 'single pot/skillet' item. This would make judging and serving much simpler. Fajitas, if prepared in a single pot/skillet, could be considered a legal entry.
After the judging, the entries could be served up to the crowd. Non-competitors could also contribute to the group meal. I'll run the competition. And I will recruit a couple of judges once we are on site. A few simple rules: 1. A single pot is used for cooking/preparing the item. 2. All cooking must be done from scratch. (no canned foods, no pre-mixed spices) 3. All cooking is to be done over a campfire, using natural materials, prepared by the individual contestant, or communal firepit. 4. All judging is done by a panel of judges (non-competitiors) and their decision is final. 5. Enough of the entry must be prepared for 10-12 servings. Remember: after the judging we ALL eat supper from teh entries Entry Fee and Prizes: $10.00 entry fee. All entry fees will be returned in prize money. 60% to First Place 30% to Second Place 10% to Third Place I have leftover bowls and spoons from Gunstock that I will donate to the contest to be used for judging and serving. Anyone wanna play? TRG |

You need to find a recipe for those eggrolls, fry them up out there. TRG |

Seriously, I can cook worth a sh!t, bro. My cooking compared to you guys is like night and day. |
I will just sit on the jury/judging for this.
That means free food I'll just leave the cooking to our resident I just hope the hot peppers don't make it into any of the food that weekend. |
I am not cooking. I am running the competiton, and judging. And no, you won't be a judge. I pick the judges, and it won't be you. TRG PS. And if you had paid attention, the whole point is to provide a meal for EVERYONE that night. numbnuts. |
Wish I was gonna make. My weekends I'm PWed since I travel Mon - Fridays.
That being said I recommend you get fat people for judges. Skinny people don't know shit about eating cause they don't care about food! Cheers Coz_(Houstonian who works in Louisiana each week)45 |

Hmmmm...
/me ponders Dutch oven sourdough rolls. For no pre-mixed spices, that means garlic salt and Italian seasoning and lemon pepper are out? Stuff like that? What about salad dressing? |
No those would be fine. A pre-mixed spice would be a chili kit, Bisquick, Stouffer's stuffing... TRG PS. Besides, these other guys are already crying like babies and not planning to cook. You are the only brave soul to step up to the challenge so far... |

Anyone know how to make peach cobbler in a dutch oven over coals? I had that once a long time ago, it was mmmmmmmmmmm
I did to..... back in boy scout camp. It was teh shit. Of course, it was the last day of a survival camp, and we were starving. |

Peach Cobbler Pie
1 Yellow Cake Mix 16oz. Canned Peaches, drained 1/2 way 1 Cast Iron Dutch Oven 2 Tbsp. Butter/Margarine Directions: After the peaches are drained place them in the dutch oven. Then dump the cake mix in and mix it in with the peaches. Next, put the butter on top in small slices. Comments: Check every 10-15 minutes until the top is golden brown and moist. Very good with vanilla ice cream! www.chuckwagondiner.com/recipes.php?id=141&cat_id=5 enjoy.. fullclip |

Survival camp? Let me guess, you practiced survival sleeping by conserving heat and sharing sleeping bags? Get a Merit Badge for it? TRG |

Hey little man..... (thats right, I called you little man) You start knocking the BSA, you gonna have a world of hurt coming down around you. |
F the BSA. Got that? I saw your post-carb scrawny ass at GS. I have bowel movements bigger than you now. You gonna hit me with you Order of the Arrow pin? Use a bowline knot to hog tie me? Lash me to a birch bark canoe and send me downriver? "One time, at Scout Camp!" TRG |
If someone has a dutch oven I can make peach cobbler like I did at Gunstock. That is if I can persuade TRG hes Oh and I would need a guarantee of first placeheremoderater powers can not reach. |

You guy's are secretely lovers aren't ya? |
Secretly? TRG |
Nope, I don't fuck with Ho's. |
Actually, it looks like the 'competition' idea is a bust. Bring what you would like. But, those that want to cook up a recipe Saturday evening, feel free. I'll probably bring chili fixins. TRG |
Two Words: Restraining Order. TRG |
If anyone fixes anything for TRG, make sure you add lots and lots of red pepper. He loves it. He can't get enough of it. |
I can't gaurantee you first place, but I'm sure I could arrange some sort of compensation. If nobody else is bringing a dutch oven and you'll really make it, I can scrounge one up from my father's place and toss it in my car with the other 967.3 lbs of guns, ammo, beer, and gear that's on the list already. |
I'll bring mine, bring yours too. We'll make at least two cobblers. TRG |
I'll second that...Troop 40 ate our fair share of peach cobbler made around the ol campfire.... |
