I want to move up to the PNW, and I want to narrow it down to OR, WA, or BC. I know the gun laws are retarded, but how's the quality of life? If you had it to do over again, would you pick one of those three for any particular reason?

Coming from CA BC would be a nice transition point, but only if your goal was to live in Either Eastern WA or Northern ID.

If I had a choice, was either independantly wealthy, could work form home or was simply retired with a nice nest egg, I'd definetly relocate to the Sandpoint ID area.

If not any of the above....Spokane area.

Edited for the information added above---> Seattle/ anywhere in Martin Luther King Co. is your best bet.

No matter where you choose, you'll be better off than California.
I came up from the San Diego area in 2003 and moved to Lynden.
It's a fairly conservative area, but too close to communist Bellingham.
Still both WA and OR are liberal. But LA liberal and not San Francisco liberal.
WA doesn't have a state income tax. But does have state liquor stores.
BC is socialist, but OK if you like government health care and smoking dope.

As a CDN citizen, former BC resident, and now WA state resident for about 11 years I note the following:

Differences in effect ive TAX rates are huge. As in 1/2 or less in WA state.

Lower prices in WA state, and the differences are more than can be explained by the exchange rate.

Higher crime in BC lower mainland. B&Es, home invasions, car thefts, assaults, rapes, etc all higher in BC. I refer to the crime noise floor being lower in WA state, however being worse in certain areas (like parts of Seattle or Tacoma).

Like WA state, BC is fairly conservative in outlook once you get outside Vancouver. A lot of the same Seattle vs rest of WA state issues you see here, you get up in BC with Vancouver vs the rest of BC.

Seems to be a stronger Union presence in provincial politics than you see in WA state politics. However 10 years of NDP government incompetence has turned off a lot of folks.

Traffic worse in BC lower mainland than around Seattle I think. However the road system is better designed to support alternate routes. More shortcuts!

Seems like more opportunity and entrepreneural spirit in WA state than BC. Greater competition it looks like.

The best looking chick to eve turn me down was from B.C.

( but since EOP is on the board, I would not know that first hand, I would only have heard it)...
