Thanks for the repost!

I thought it was a valuable and educational post despite what was said at that other place.

Did you have to modify the new mag in any way? I would imagine that if the roll pin was actually hitting the first mag's follower, it would hit the second one also. Just an assumption though.

Thanks for the pictures, they will be very useful when I put my mag in my homebuilt receiver (just waiting for the mag to come in so I can put it in and drill the last couple holes. Pictures when done).

The new mag has to be notched to allow the roll pin to lock it into place. Unixcock used a drill. The drill freaked me out around my gun so I used a small rat tail file and took a little at a time. As for removing the pin, I used needle nose pliers and grabbed the pin on the far end of the exit hole and tapped lightly to get the pin started. Once exposed at the mag release side, I was able to pull it out. This might be helpful fo people like me who don't wanna drill.

Very Interesting. I like it.
So how are pricings compared to the FAB?

Cheaper than the Fab10. I paid $199 for my Fab10 lower three years ago, and I hear they're up to over $300 now. I've seen Vulcans in the $250 range. I had mag issues with my Fab10 and no doubt I'm sure I'll have problems with the Vulcan. All part of the game

Good walk through. Thanks for the pics!
I'm glad you're receiver didn't crack in the process. Is it forged or cast?

What if a normal receiver was drilled the same way with a 10 round mag pinned in place?
Could a RRA lower be treated this way and used leagally in CA?
Also could the Vulcan pin be removed so that the lower would accept detachable mags if taken out of CA?

eta: Great post BTW

Any other lower would need to have been submitted for approval to the DOJ by the manufacturer. You can't really just do it yourself.

Yes, it can be removed if you leave the state, and can become a fully functional lower...... However.. the newer batches of lowers are coming in with a clear glue on the mag catch/release so it will not budge. You would need to figure out how to get around that hurdle first..

I just bought 2 of them and they are glued. Hopefully I don't have any magazine feeding issues.

Something like paint thinner would probably break the glue down. Then there is always the whole freeze/slam method. Besides, at worst you could drill it out and just replace the catch.

Yeah,

Believe me, if there's one hint of feeding problems one of those methods will be applied and it will be replaced.

I would try some MEK and let it soak or maybe squirt it with some C02 to get it frozen real fast.

Does anyone know of a dealer in Sacramento area that is selling the Vulcan lower? I too have been plagued with a few mag feeding problems and if I can get a product that can be improved by just removing the mag then I would be interested.

Newtown Enterprises in Placerville stocks and sells the Vulcan lowers. They're located on Broadway just off the Schnell School exit. They just moved into a new building and had their grand opening yesterday. Hours are 10-6 M-Saturday, 10-5 on Sunday. Robert and Gail are GREAT people to deal with.

Its an A2 upper with standard flash suppressor and bay lug. I believe it was made by model one. That what Norman from m&a guns told me when he had his shop in fremont.
