HOUSTON - A clerk was gunned down inside a northeast Harris County gun store Thursday, sheriff's deputies told Local 2. Two customers found James Cornelius, 32, behind the counter of the Southern Firearms Store on Bear Bayou and Pecan shortly before 4 p.m. investigators said.

"We don't know if there was any money taken. There's a cash register there that's open and there's nothing inside. That appears to be possibly the motive at this time," Harris County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Bruce Williams said.

Cornelius was the gun store owner's son.

Police have not named any suspects in Cornelius' killing.

Anyone know where that store is?

Not to sound paranoid or anything, but this is why I carry 2 guns to work, and we are always watching each-others back at open and close. The store I work at has been robbed 5 times or so (all at night with no-one there), but a day-time robbery is only a matter of time.

It's deep somewhere in the Channelview area. Not a good area to begin with.

That's crazy for an sob to even think about robbing a gun store, i suppose all places have their "at the wrong place at the wrong time" type indicents. You can't let your guard down, not for a minute in that business.

Pistol Mike's in arlington was recently robbed, but the female wasnt shot, just bound. They caught all of the assholes, thank god.
