I'll be working if it hits us. Woohoo 12 hr mandatory shifts and sleeping on cold concrete at the popo station. I hate it, but will admit the checks are nice.  Unfortunately even if a cat 5, will be no buggin out for me. The dog and wife will be headed to my parents up in Jasper county though. Along with my precious toys.

Sorry to here that.
If Rita banks up towards N.O. do you get your weekend back?
I got a source that told me that Bush is mad that people said he didn't like Black people in NOLA so he is sending another hurricane their way

me too.  we are told to bring food and sleeping bag to work because we are on call.   I will secure my guns in the safe and my dad will be at the house to defend it.   I will have my lightweight AR in my truck just incase though.

If it is a Cat. 3 or less, then I will ride it out.
I live in Downtown Houston, and that is kinda scarey.
My bedroom is sub-terrainian. (about 6 feet)
With a window at about 1.5' above the ground.

If it gets nasty, all downstairs furniture will move upstairs, and I will tarp the plasma tv.

I will probably ride it out downtown, unless it goes to a big cat 3, and then I will head to the Woodlands, and to a friends house.

I have already spent better than $300 on supplies. Plywood for my buisiness, water, flashlights, food, radio...ect....
I DO NOT want to be stuck out like those (unprepaired) idoits in N.O.
Oh yeah, and the Glock, and AR will ber close at hand.

Does anybody know how the I-10, and 59 section fared during  T.S. Allison?
Did it flood?
Thanks,
Doug.

I don't forsee there being a huge problem in downtown houston, thenm again, I just moved here and don't know much about Hurricanes.  Nevertheless, the AK, M4gery and SPR will be ready to rock on very short notice, should looters think it wise to mess with my shit.

Places that had never flooded before flooded during Allison.  My parents have lived in the same house in Pasadena since '76 and had never had water in the house from any storm (even Alicia).  Their house flooded twice during Allison!

I'm hearing the state expects Rita to be a Cat 4 before landfall.  If it goes Cat 4 my wife and son are headed to Austin and I'm bunking at the PD.  She'll have her .38 and the pump 20 and I'll bring my PT945 and SAR1.

Ever ridden out a Cat 3 in Houston?

No?

I did way back in 1983 with Alicia.  While she wasn't that big or bad of a hurricane, our neighborhood got torn the hell up.  Shitloads of flooding, trees down EVERYWHERE, Downtown lost a bunch of windows in the tall buildings.  It was no picnic.  We were stuck in our house for only a day and a half, but it was still a pretty stout storm.

Hell, I still remember Alicia.  It was bad...but IIRC, there were no lootings.  I guess the trend has caught on now ever since Rodney King riot in LA.

oh yeah, with a lack of Law and order, you could bet on it in Houston.

come on man, you know how a lot of HPD are.

not saying it will happen, but in NO they ordered everyone to give up their firearms.

I'm still in disbelief about that.

You're in a city with a mayor and leaders that are just as liberal.  expect the same thing to happen here.

they can have my rifle(s) that's of course after they let it cool down

This is really pissing me off.  I'm pretty sure the Austin City Limits Music Festival will be cancelled.

I may send the wife and the dogs to Austin if it gets to Cat 4.  I plan on staying.

I may swing by Specs and get some looter bait on the way home tonight.
