Rep. Johnson beats 2 Democrats in primary

Associated Press - July 20, 2010 10:54 PM ET

ATLANTA (AP) - U.S. Rep. Hank Johnson has won a shot at a third term after overcoming two fellow Democrats challenging him in the primary election for Georgia's 4th District.

Johnson defeated former DeKalb County CEO Vernon Jones and DeKalb County Commissioner Connie Stokes in the Tuesday election. Johnson had 55% of the vote with 72% of precincts reporting.

Johnson, who defeated Democratic Rep. Cynthia McKinney in 2006, is seeking a third term in the U.S. House. His challengers in Tuesday's primary emerged shortly after Johnson announced he had been diagnosed with Hepatitis C.

Johnson will face Republican Lisbeth Carter, an Atlanta consultant, who won a four-way GOP primary.

I'd venture to say that he's got to be better than Vernon.  You do NOT want Vernon Jones in there.  Hank Johnson may be a bit...challenged, but he's not going anywhere from here.  Vernon wants to be the next black president.  He's one of the worst politicians you've seen in GA politics in a while.  A very corrupt and twisted individual.

Even though Liz Carter won a four-way Republican primary, the votes cast for all four Republican candidates combined, was 17,395.

Hank Johnson drew 27,958 votes by himself.

Total cast for all three Dems combined, was 50,593.

Many Republicans voted in the Dem primary, so Hank would have won by an even larger margin if they would have have stuck to the Republican primary.

?  You're assuming the R's voted for Hank's opponents.  I would have voted for Hank, in the lame hope the R's would field a candidate that could beat someone that's biblically stupid.

Washington needs a Courtesy Flush.

Oh, come on, Guam could really capsize. Couldn't it?

That doesn't really surprise me, since you were also the one who voted for John Lewis for all of those years.
