Where do you go in the Badlands? I haven't been out there wheelin' in about 7 years now. Last time I was out there, no one could really tell me where you could and couldn't ride. Some old lady at the tourist center in Wall finally was able to give me a map, along with 2 pages of updates from land swaps you had to be careful of. The badlands are a cool place to ride, I'd like to go out there again, but with the 3/4 Dodge getting 10MPG, who knows when.
Cool idea putting the pick up camper on the trailer. Looks like kind of a heavy load though for your tow vehicle.
we uselly go in Custer SD. lots of fireroads, trails and state/county land to wheel on. would also recomend the beaver lake campground in Custer, we'v stayed there last two times out that way. they are wheeler friendly and you can drive your wheelers right from the camp site to the trail system. no mud out there, but big open spaces, deep valleys, washouts are fun to navigate.
trailer isnt too bad, fully loaded with two full size wheelers on the back its about 4000lbs, and the Avalanche is rated for 8100lbs. its IS a little bit toung heavy but the weight distrubution hitch keeps it nice and level. works realy well tho, the storage bins i built on the side of the camper are 8 foot long, can put fishing rods, all my camp chairs, and other equitment in them. I dont even need to put any gear in the back of the truck anymore! theres enough room on the back of the trailer to have two full size wheelers, and the genny and still open the door to the camper. after its set up and the wheelers are off, I have about and 11 foot wood deck to set up the camp chairs and cooler on. I also have a tarp and frame for an awning too keep the rain off the deck (will get a real one made for it later)
