I called the guy in charge of Lexington last year, he said that he tries to keep it open all year, even during hunting season.

The animals get used to it.  Last year we had two deer walk out ONTO our PD's range while we were there.  They got to about the 75 yard line and then jumped the fence.  Stupid.

I was at Lexington one day in the spring, between shots a coyote ran across the range, really surprised me!
