From KING5.com Staff and Wire Reports

A Seattle police officer drove into the middle of a shootout between two groups early Thursday near the Saint James Cathedral in Capitol Hill.

SEATTLE - A Seattle police officer drove into the middle of a shootout between two groups early Thursday near the Saint James Cathedral in First Hill.

Spokeswoman Debra Brown says they were shooting at each other across the street about two o’clock, and the officer shot one suspect through the window of the patrol car.

The wounded man was taken to Harborview Medical Center with a non-life threatening wound. The officer was not hurt.

Brown says the number of shots fired in the high-density apartment area was very dangerous, but no one else was hurt.

Police don’t know why the two groups were shooting. Officers were unable to track down any of the others involved.

According to Q13 there were "Fully Automatic Weapons" in the gunfight.  Not sure if the anit's will have much use for this incident as nobody was hurt or injured except for the one guy the cop shot.

Gotta save some gas money for the trip to Olympia, next session.

This is where they start to piss me off. Criminal gangs with machineguns, shooting the place up, so they'll try to take away OUR home defense guns. They'll want us to try to defend ourselves against machineguns with over and under shotguns, deer rifles or revolvers.

Seattle officer caught in shootout on First Hill

06:50 AM PST on Thursday, December 15, 2005
From KING5.com Staff and Wire Reports

SEATTLE - A Seattle police officer drove into the middle of a shootout between two groups early Thursday near the Saint James Cathedral in First Hill. The officer was not hurt, but the shootout ended with one of the suspects going to the hospital with injuries.

Seattle Police Department Spokeswoman Debra Brown said the officer was patrolling the area around 2 a.m. when he drove his car right in the middle of the crossfire at the intersection of Ninth and Marion.

Police said the officer immediately drew his gun and fired back through the window of his car, shattering the glass and hitting one of the suspects.

"He stopped his car and engaged," said Brown. "One of the individuals was firing a fully automatic weapon in the direction of the other group. The officer did wound that suspect."

The wounded man was taken to Harborview Medical Center with a non-life threatening wound.

Brown said the number of shots fired in the high-density apartment area was very dangerous, but no one else was hurt.

Police don’t know why the two groups were shooting. Canine units did arrive at the scene, but officers were unable to track down any of the others involved.

The officer will be put on administrative leave, which is standard procedured in an officer-involved shooting.

Traffic on Ninth is closed between Columbia and Madison and on Marion between Eighth and Tenth.

The suspect who was firing the alledgedly fully automatic weapon was wounded any bets as to whether they recovered the alledged fully automatic weapon or not and if so whether or not we see this claim of it being fully automatic verified or disproven?

Well if they give it to the BATF Im sure they will be able to find a way to make it fire full auto.

"Full auto"

A friend of mine who I never let shoot any of my guns any more, thinks its really cool to burn through a mag as fast as he can. I've told him repeatedly I do not like my pistols being fired that way. He persisted and now does not get to shoot with me anymore. One time out at Sultan Basin he was did this and a fellow at the pit with us but not with us turned and asked what kind of "machine pistol" we were shooting.

Rapid fire and full auto are completely different things. I'm sure these asshats were taking great care to take aimed shoots. Especially if the wannabes I've seen are any indication. I've seen those knuckleheads burn through a mag, run the paper in and it be untouched. "Wow, I just dumped a whole mag and didn't hit a thing. How'd that happen."

As far as the use of the Engrish Ranguage goes, this made for a "Bright Spot" in my day-

...and the officer shot one suspect through the window of the patrol car.

I had some pretty fantastic visuals dancing in my head when I read that.

Gigantic slingshots, a micro-trebuchet, mebbe a circus cannon?

The I read this and it all went back to normal....unlike the officer's hearing.

I've fired the same handgun inside an enclosed vehicle, my hearing was fine.

The officer probably didn't even experience pain.

Gentelmen, I was there,..., two blocks north on Ninth & Seneca street conduction security checks at the hospital at about 0140 hours.  I could hear the gun battle which lasted about thirty seconds.  The echo sound effects from the ammo exchange from the local buildings was vary exciting and strange at the same time.   SPD contacts advised there were over fourty cartridge cases found on the crime scene.  I would guess since the local resturaunt, Veto's, has changed its night life clientel to the rapp crowd, the little italian establishment is starting to get a bad name in the local business district on first hill.

I would like to be the first one here to say:

"Congrtatulations, officer!  There must have been something in your experience, training, or mental preparedness that enabled you to make a shot that hit your target.  Good job!"

I knew the man that used to be the firearms instructor for the Seattle PD before his death two years ago while driving back from an NRA pistol competition in Ohio.  Ken Saucier was a great man, a great cop, a great shot, an excellent instructor, a good motorcyclist, and a million other things I can't put the time into writing right now.  He is sorely missed, but maybe his student didn't! hve
Ok, now you all can flame away at me!

They (the Media) don't want the facts to get in the way of them creating a reason to close that evil gunshow loophole that doesn't exist! It's not in their best interests to even try to get the story right.
I'm sure it's just ignorance on their part but they are so rabbidly anti-gun that they are unable and unwilling to make the distinction between a semi-automatic and a slelect fire automatic weapon.

Small caliber gun fire from a semi auto handgun would be my best estimate in 9mm. The sound of the echo from two blocks away was fairly consistant and fast. but no full auto subgun like a Mac 11.  Most of the business partners up on First Hill have always had vary competitive market to conduct business with and all the high profile clubs and bars in the down town district really dose not help the poor business situation.

I know Veto's changed hands several years ago with a extensive interior remodle, The old clientle have been replaced by the trendy times of this city and  the lunch crowd and happy hour must not be paying the bill to introduce a Hazard playing field with Rapp music and the crowd and gang violence that proceeds it.  Its bad enough already on the hill now with street violence and this east seattle influence is not helping, just creating more bullshit!!!.

So, no doubt that the media is evil, gets things wrong, at times, and has lots of political agendas that are far from impartial.

That being said, do you really think they want to close the "evil gunshow loophole".  Or IS IT POSSIBLE that they try to sensationalize things so that the sell more newspapers, get more people to watch, etc. because they are a BUSINESS, trying to make money like everyone else?

ETA  I am, by NO MEANS, saying that it is right, I'm just questioning motives.

Look at this way. They have the ability to sensationalize the event and sell more newspapers and poison everyone's mind at the same time. They get paid for promoting their agenda. For them it's a win-win situation.

They are a business.  Exactly the way I see it.  The only way they can get someones attention away from the internet, the soft core porn on thriteen different "movie" channels on cable, or keep folks up late enough to watch is to stir things up, at any cost.  Ever tried to watch a full news program on a really slow news day?  The reporters really look at teh camera like they know everyone has already changed the channel or shut off the TV.

IMO, if they reported more lawfull defensive use of deadly weapons by someone that did not choose to be a victim, they could stir things up, get more people watching their shows, stick to the principles that make new programs what they are (if it bleeds it leads, sex sells, The police saved a puppy, and crying children make everyone sad, etc., etc.), and keep advertisers withtou a political agenda happy enough to keep sending in checks.  Reporting the truth could become a comodity worth more than anyone ever dreamed, in the right market.  You firsdt have to convince folks you are telling the whole truth, and that could be very difficult.  Ever listen to the news programs on NPR?  I know, lot's of artsy fartsy stuff crammed in there too, but there is some really indepth, quality reporting usually heard on their radio news programs, like Morning Edition and All Things Considered.  But aside their possible bias, and you might see what news reporting could be.

FOX news channell could have gone this route.  Instead, they are only slighlty different from CNN, etc.  Not enough difference to make it worth any time investment by me.  Oh, if I were king!
