Sheriff's office releases more details about firearm theft
From Journal Staff Reports
ITHACA – Tompkins County Sheriff’s investigators have revealed more details about a firearm theft which occurred during the day on Tuesday.
A total of nine revolvers and semi-automatic handguns, valued at about $4,000, were stolen from a gun-collector’s residence in the 900 block of East Shore Drive, investigators said. They’re looking into the possibility that some long guns were taken as well, they added.
Investigators believe whoever stole the guns entered the residence through an unlocked window.
Though no ammunition was taken, the stolen guns use common ammunition which is available for purchase by the public, said Senior Investigator Derek Osborne.
“This type of crime poses a significant concern to our agency, mainly due to the items stolen,” Osborne said. “Anyone with the audacity to commit a burglary in the first place is not the sort of person we feel comfortable possessing numerous firearms. Handguns in particular are easily concealable, and in the hands of criminals, could perpetuate into their use in additional crimes.”

I know theres no list by gun of whats beenstolen, but worth a heads up if someone sees someone trying to sell off a large group of weapons. I hear they also might have moved South across the PA border....
