Petro has a solid tract record of being pro gun, As attorney general his record of standing up for gun owners is outstanding. He has negotiated many reciprocity agreements with other states so we can carry outside of Ohio. He sued the city of Clyde for obstructing HB12. Jim is a true fiscal conservative and a true hands on Manager which I respect. Petro running mate Joy Padgett has unassailable credentials as a second amendment supporter. She introduced some of the very first concealed carry proposals and has recently introduced the Ohio Senate version of HB347, the HB 12 clean up bill. I think a proven tract record is better then talk. That's why I support Jim and volunteer as a member of gun owners for Petro. From my research I believe that Mr Blackwell proposed TEL amendment will hurt hunters/gun owners since it disbands the ODNR and puts that agencies funds into a general. I think it's great that we have 3 pro gun Candidates in Petro, Blackwell and Strickland.. A good year for gun owners. I think Jim is the best choice. So what's everyone thinking here?

I won't vote for him.  He refused to sign my ATF From 1 for my SBR.

Wait a minute, Petro has proposed to reorganize and slash state Gov't (DNR) too.

ETA:  Sounds like I better start looking for a new job then.

Von, I remember your thread about when you were trying to get someone to sign off on your form 1 so you could build your SBR...  Didn't you try many Sheriffs and other governmental agencies but all refused? Did you ever get the signatures you required and get your SBR built? I'm sorry if Mr. Petro would not to sigh your form. If I remember it was just someone from his office that was only semi helpful but you never spoke with and Mr. Petro. He never directly refused correct? I truly believe Jim is a second amendment supporter and if he refused to help you then I'm disappointed. I do however think that among the two leading republicans running for Governor Jim Petro is the best man, The only republican that can beat Strickland.. Lee Fisher whose Stricklands chosen running mate is bad news for those who value gun ownership. He's Ohio version of Chuck Schumer and that aint good, lol.  Petro as governor would be a friend to gun owners and a good thing for Ohio

My first time voting in America and I'll be voting for Blackwell, as far as I can, see he is a better friend to the firearm owning community than Petro.

Yes, but they were all Democrats and I expected them to say no.

I'm working on finding a friendly judge, and if that doesn't work, I know people that know Tim Grendel.  In the meanwhile, I have an SDI extended flash suppressor pinned to an M4 barrel.

Actually, he did refuse.  Mr. Jonathan Fulkerson, Deputy Attorney General for the Health and Human Services Section was the one that I was in contact with.  Petro refused sign my form and refused to delegate signature authority to Fulkerson.

The letter I got back from Fulkerson stated, "Pursuant to my email of today, please find enclosed your original ATF Form 4 [sic] paperwork. I am sorry the Attorney General's Office could not assist you in securing your CLEO signature. I wish you the best of luck."

Really?  I've never seen a booth any any gunshow for the Blackwell campaign.  At the political forum that was held up at blackwing a lot of actual candidates showed up but Blackwell sent some lackey.  From the people at the blackwell campaign I've spoken to it was assumed that i'd be voting for Ken.  I don't like assumptions, nor did I like the fact that they also assumed my support on a lot of other issues.  Finally, you can pay your dues and wear the jacket, but until you've actually done something for the 2nd Amendment and firearm owners I'm hesitant to throw my support behind an individual for a political office.  The only blackwell people I've spoken with spent more time ripping on Petro and other candidates than providing me with substantive evidence of what Ken's done for gun owners.     I was also somewhat shocked at how much I got lumped into a particular group of voter (pro gun, pro life, religious right) and when I indicated that that shoe did not fit the campaign person was downright shocked, leaving me with the imrpession that those views were the only ones that Blackwell was out to support.

I'm just concerned about any candidate which assumes support.  To me it signals that they really don't have to listen to what we say because they think they have our votes and what we have to say really isn't important.

If he was really so pro-gun owner why isn't he at gunshows?  I see Petro people at a lot of the shows I go to and I've also seen and met Petro's running mate at two shows.

For me actions speak louder than words.  And from what I've seen and what I haven't seen I'm very concerned that Blackwell may talk the talk, but when it comes down to it I'm not convinced he walks the walk.

Blackwell will get my vote. My only wish is that he would be in office early enough to sign the new measures going through the Ohio House and Senate right now to reform CCW and enacet castle doctrin. Sadly, I think Taft will get them, and veto.

I'm going with Blackwell too at this juncture.  Its not that I think Petro is a bad guy, I don't.  Its that I believe that Blackwell will have the juice to beat Strickland.  I know Strickland and he's not a bad guy.  I know Fisher and he's not a bad guy for a socialist gun hating moonbat.  That being said, I think Blackwell can win and I think Petro would have a hard time.

Just curious on why you think blackwell will have a better chance winning in november?  From most moderates I've spoken to they would hands down pick Jim over Ken because most of them view Ken as being far more to the right wing (and religious right at that) than Jim is.  And, that's the turn off to most of them which would push them to strickland in a Blackwell/strickland campaign fight.  Based on that I know Ken would get the conservative base, but I'm not convinced at all that Ken could pull the middle necessary to win in November.

I think that's the exact reason Blackwell stands so well a chance.  Most conservatives are really utterly fed up with the "moderate" politicing being done at the national level.  I know a ton of conservatives (not necessesarily republicans) who are made sick by the likes of John McCain, George Voinavich, Mike DeWine, etc.  They don't represent our core beliefs any more than the liberals do.

I also think Blackwell stands a pretty damn good chance of picking off some of the black vote the dems take for granted.

Good post Lithgow.

Let's not forget that Blackwell, was both a Charter Party member and a registered Democratic for many years.  Which adds a little more weight to your words.

+1 for Petro

Simply put, should Petro not win the primary, I will be voting for Strickland.  I am a libertarian (as a personal philosophy, not a political party).  Blackwell's nomination will signal to me that the Republican party has finally turned away from all libertarian roots and has, as all those with power inevitably do, turned only to the pursuit of more power.

Ken Blackwell is NOT a fiscal conservative.  He supports TEL for 2 reasons: He knows it won't pass, and if it does pass, he knows it won't affect state governance.

Ken Blackwell is NOT a "loyal" Republican, he is not a "solid" party supporter.  He is a Carterite.

Ken Blackwell IS a self-interested, non-self-reflective,power-hungry bloviator.  He is ALL talk, and he is NO walk.  Name one thing he has done for firearms rights. . . . I didn't think you could.

At least Jim Petro has a record of 1. supporting firearms issues, and 2. caring about the votes of firearms supporters.  Not only that, he's sent $40 million dollars back to tax payers in his two statewide offices, where Blackwell not only has spent more EVERY year he's been in office, he's "passed" back-door taxes in the form of raising charges to the state's small businesses as secretary of state.  Disgusting.

The worst part is that typically LOYAL republicans like myself simply WILL NOT vote for Blackwell, because we (or at least I) do not recognize the borrow-and-spend, hate-mongering, bible-beating wing of our party as representing our interests.  I want less government involvement in EVERYTHING.  Less involvement in firearms, less involvement in my personal practice of religion, less involvement in who I talk to, less involvement in what strip clubs I do or do not go to, and less involvement in everything else.

Ken Blackwell's republicans are as bad as Ted Kennedy's democrats.  The democrats want everyone to be dependent, desperate hoards suckling on the teet of government for their survival.  The Ken Blackwell republicans want to regulate every personal action anyone takes, and to have a minder sitting on the foot of everyone's bed to ensure they participate in "approved" sexual positions.  To hell with both of them.  I'll vote Strickland to punish the republicans of this state for not giving me a republican candidate, and giving me a draconian authoritarian instead.
