I'm heading to Burlington this weekend for a friend's wedding and I'd like to tap into the hive mind for some good recommendations on places to grab a bite to eat and, later on, grab a drink (or three).  As far as food is concerned, I'm open to all cuisines and price ranges as long as there's meat involved.  For bars, I prefer laid back joints where I can saddle up to the bar for a few pints - someplace where a a group of 30-somethings can hang out (definitely not a college bar).  We're staying at what looks to be smack in the middle of downtown: the area bordered by Main & Pearl, Battery & S Union).

So whatcha got?

Vermont Pub and Brewery is pretty good, their fish and chips is awesome!

If you're on Reddit then /r/vermont might be able to help you out better as far as places to eat.

Didn't think about Reddit.  I'll check it out.  Thanks!

Ri Ra (leave before about 10:00 p.m.) and Leunig's for breakfast/brunch. Love their corned beef hash!

ETA: I only go to Burlington in the summer (Brewfest) so I can't comment on the college crowd.

Haven't been to Burlington yet, but if you want to stop on the way, Prohibition Pig in Waterbury and Three Penny Tap Room in Montpelier are both in a class of their own for both food and drink.

Keep your eyes out for any beers from Lawson's, Hill Farmstead, or Alchemist's Heady Topper. Everything they make is magic in a glass and tough to find anywhere but their home state.

I'm from that area, and yes, Prohibition pig is fairly good, though it and The Reservoir are aiming for the "touristy-Stowe" crowd, with higher prices and a "trendy" atmosphere. Arvads is a good place to go in Waterbury, and Mcgillicuddy's in Montpelier is awesome. If you are in the Barre/Montpelier area and want real good Vermont food that the locals would eat, then go to The Wayside diner, awesome prices, and lots of awesome food.

I know the 5 Spice Cafe had a fire years back - did they rebuild? Great place.

Other than that, 2 words: Al's Fries.

I've heard good things about Three Penny Tap but, unfortunately, we're flying in for the wedding and won't have cars for the duration of our stay.

You're the 3rd person to tell me about this Al's Fries place.  This is sounding like a must-go.

If you get to Al's Fries, make sure you get some fries!

My girlfriend and I try to get up north once a year toward the fall, usually spend a day in and around Burlington. There is no shortage of good food up there, I assure you.

We have eaten lunch here every time weve gone, both get the burgers. I cant tell you exactly why I would recommend it over others, I can't really put my finger on it. Maybe its because the food is familiar to me, or the atmosphere, or maybe we just had a great time there the first time and we hold it close. Whatever reason, we both leave awesomely full, delightfully drunk, and wicked fuckin satisfied.

I hope you guys have an great trip!!!

I honestly don't know what the hype is about Al's. If I am hungry and in the area, I am much more likely to hit BK or Quizno's rather than Al's. I am not a native Vermonter, I moved here for work, but even the natives don't seem too wild about the place.

If you want pub food and the best hot dogs and potato skins you will ever have (as well as a decent selection of tap beers), head to The Pour House, furthur east down Route 2.

Al's French Fries (Pizza Burger!), Single Pebble, VT Pub+Brew, American flatbread (hippy pizza place but really good) and for a more 'up scale' dining experince I'd recommend windjammers .

Enjoy..

We're doing American Flatbread on Friday night.  The pizzas look mighty tasty.

x2 on the Windjammer....incredible steaks, best baked stuffed shrimp on the planet (when they have it), and it is one of the few places I have been to where the bartenders don't screw up any mixed drink order. Always #1 on my list of places to bring out-of-town guests.

Guild and Company in South Burlington is really good.  Bearded Frog in Shelburne also very good, a little on the more expensive side but you won't run into a bunch of college kids either.
