My company, has a community service program. We get 2 paid days a year to volunteer for some good cause or another.
It is set up by someone at the office.
This year, we spent the day helping out an elderly veteran with a wheel chair bound wife.
We built a sidewalk and a wheel chair ramp at his house today.
15 folks, spent about 5 hours digging the path for a 55 foot sidewalk, leveling the ground, building the forms, and basically getting it ready for the concrete.
With so many folks, some spent their time cleaning up the area. Little things like picking up branches and stuff.
Then there's Mary. Mary is about 65, pretty active, and a great co-worker.
So we are digging the path, and start getting stuff falling on us from the roof.
Mary climbed up there with a broom to clear all the acorns off the house and gutters.
14 people nearly had a heart attack.
She stayed up there an hour cleaning off the roof.
Some folks never quit.
To Jack: I hope our work makes your life a little easier. Thanks for your service.
