Hi everyone, I've been trying to search this topic but can't find exactly what I'm looking for.

I'll be heading to Vegas this weekend from CA for a bachelor party.  On the agenda is a visit to the shooting range, and guests are allowed to bring their own AR's.  I'd like to bring my own AR and shoot the damn thing without a bullet button and with 30 round mags.

Am I allowed to bring my AR-15 out of state and then return it back in to CA without having to go through an FFL?  Everything will be returned back to CA legal configuration before I return, just wondering if the lower receiver would need to stop by the FFL and transferred (to myself) before I can take it home.  Thanks!

Perfectly legal. However, in addition to proper California legal configuration, make sure you're transporting it legally as well. I know this is a "no duh!" sort of thing to say, but you'd be surprised how many people get jammed up by local law enforcement for a legal weapon, due to improper transport.

Thanks guys.  Does the same thing go for hand guns or no?

Some NV laws to keep in mind...

It is legal to transport an unloaded firearm in a locked container.

It is legal to open carry a loaded firearm.
Conceal carry of firearms requires a valid CCW permit.

It is legal to have a loaded handgun in a vehicle without having a valid CCW permit, as long as it is not "concealed upon the person".
"conceal upon the person" includes portable containers on or near a person.
Examples...
It is legal to have a loaded handgun in the vehicle's glove/utility compartment, in plain sight on the seat next to you, on the vehicle's dashboard, under your seat, in a holster on you in plain sight.
Without a valid CCW permit, it is illegal  to have a handgun concealed on you, concealed under you (you sitting on it) or loaded & in a portable container (purse/case/bag/pack/etc).

It is illegal to have a loaded rifle/shotgun in a vehicle.
This means no loaded chamber, but loaded magazine in firearm is legal.

Posted "no firearms/weapons" signs have no legal weight; unless they are posted at the entrance to a Gov owned/operated building, school/university, airport or child care facility.
However, businesses can ask you to leave their property for whatever reason and failure to do so can result in a trespassing citation.

Your BAC needs to below 0.10 in order to legally possess a firearm.

There is no "drunk in public" laws.
But, if you can not take care of yourself or have people to take care of you, you can be taken into custody for your safety.
But, if you have an attitude towards NV LEOs, they can arrest you for being a "public nuisance" (misdemeanor).
