I'm looking to purchase a few 33 round 9mm mags.  How will I know if they're legal in NY state?  Will they have special marking showing they were manufactured before the AWB date?

Yes, you can buy them here, not in the city though I believe

No they will be unmarked. Be careful of buying +10 "noban" mags which are illegal to possess in NY.

I see them for sale in the EE,  they say "Non-LEO".  Other magazines for sale mention they do have LEO markings.   Is it safe to say that if the date or LEO markings are not present, the magazine is legal to own?

Any +10 mag manufactured after 09-13-1994 is illegal to possess unless you're a LEO etc. Since it is easy to tell illegal (see aove pic) from legal unmarked Glock mags I would stay away from from them. The risk is small but I don't see the point of risking your liberty over it. There are plenty of legal preban mags around for sale.
