I have a couple gen 3's, but have yet to hold a gen 4. Everywhere I have gone they kind of chuckle when I ask. Does anyone know of anywhere in SE Wisconsin where I can fondle one before I purchase?  I'm looking to add a gen 4 glock 19 to the collection.

If you are ever in the Ripon area, I have a couple.

G23 and 22

They took me two months wait on the leo/mil purchase program.

Better off sticking to a Gen 3. They need to work the kinks out of the Gen 4's

I have a Gen 4 Glock 19. I first shot it with PMC 9mm or some of the cheapest/underpowered ammo I could find. I had 3 malfunctions in the first 50 rounds or so. I swiched to 124 Grain AE and 500 rounds later not a single malfunction besides the first 3.

I LOVE Gen 4. I love the grip texture, the bigger mag release, and the significantly less felt recoil. I would say its about 20% less recoil than the Gen 3 Glocks.

Are people having problems with them? Yes. It appears the Gen 4 Glocks are more prone to malfunction in the first few hundred rounds ONLY when shooting with underpowered ammo. I shot some WWB/PMC just to make sure I was not having any problems with that ammo after my recoil spring had broken in. It worked fine, although I did have brass in my face a few times.

Morale of the story? Dont use underpowered ammo at first, if at all.

I live near Milwaukee. If you ever want to meet at a range sometime shoot me a PM.

Thanks. I'll call badger and see if they have any in stock. I think most of the kinks have been worked out of the gen 4's now. I typically only shoot WWB anyway.

Smitty's Guns in Deerfield is probably too far West but they had a model 19 and 23 last Saturday.

I think most new guns nowadays are being made to such tighter tolerances/specs that they  just need to be broke in to function properly. It seems that when someone buys a new gun they have issues with it for the first few hundred rounds until everything starts to function better.

Then again, I may be way off base...maybe they are being made with lesser parts and poorer quality...?

I would agree with that.  My USP 9 had a malf. or two in the first 50 rounds and was flawless after the fact.  Surfaces have to mate and smooth, springs probably need to take a set.

Midwestern Shooters Supply in Lomira has some Gen 4's in the cabinet.  I believe they may also have some "rental" guns that you can shoot if you want to as well.

Better prices can be had than most of the retailers though.

They do have rentals but the selection varies.  If someone goes and finds a Gen 4, let us know.  Something I'd have to try before I buy.

Typically I hate gun stores.
But I still need to take a trip and check this place out.

Just called Cabela's, looking at picking up a G27 Gen4 for CCW $599. Currently have G22 Gen 3. Anyone have a G27, thoughts?

Thanks

I have a gen3 26 and have shot a gen 3 27. The 27 has a much snappier recoil.

The 26 is nice, but found I prefer the pinky extensions on the mags.  That is why I'm looking at a 19 sized frame.

When I bought my 19gen4, I looked on line for reputable distributors that had listings for dealers in WI.. I matched up the best pricing with a dealer (happened to be Badger) and printed the deal I selected. I went to Badger and they had one in the stock but at a higher price. I presented my print-off and Badger honored it and I saved about $70.00 at the time. If you do buy from Badger they also will have special pricing on work/repair to said weapon.

Hope this helps,
JP

BTW, I have only had a few FTFeed for about the first 100 rounds or so with various brands of ammo, it has been running smooth since even with my crappy reloads..............

I do not work for, have any affiliation with, or connected with them in any way, shape or form.

edit for comment.

Farting FIB. We ought to be charging you a toll for passing through our forum.

That's the new purchase under the public safety discount? Do you know if all public safety purchase orders are being filled with Gen 4s?

Ordered direct from Glock about a month ago. No place to specify generation on the paperwork. Wonder what I'll get.

If you want it a certain way, I would call and bother them about it.

So with Streicher's out, who is standing in for the stocking LE dealer for the area who probably isn't in the area or are they sending direct to FFL of choice?
