Intredasting. Discuss.

(Personally, I see both sides of this one. It is public information, but like publishing CCW info, is probably in poor taste.)

I see a big difference between public employees salaries and private gun ownership.

True....

But legally, in some states, both are public records.

Public employee salaries are a matter of public record. If they posted each employee's credit rating and address then it would be an issue. Saying that the postal worker makes $40,000 is not a big issue.

As long as teh info is generic.  IE; a corrections officer with 3 years in makes $40K, or there were 45,874 CCW permit issues to Washara county.

It is all public knowledge. Our county just took the name lines out of our county budget that is posted on the county website.

Wow.

Found some of my old teachers.  The teacher who's class I met my wife in makes $100k+ and about 25k in benefits.  He taught history when we were there...

Wow.

I'm having fun looking up former teachers and people I know, but it really is none of my business who is making how much money.  Job titles + pay should be good enough data.   I do think it makes people as much of a target for robbery as ccw list postings.

These people are paid with money, which I earned, which was taken from me, and then given to them.  Your damnned right I want to know how much they're being paid!!  Otherwise, who keeps a check on this stuff?

And how does a person draw a line from the display of taxpayer funded payroll, to the public display of private firearm ownership?  It's like drawing a line from a carburator to a monkey's ass.  Makes no fucking sense!!

The GF is a public servant. She got all pissy when she found out they were publishing her salary.

I told her it's not like her address, phone number, or any other sensitive information was posted. That, and being a public servant being paid with tax dollars, the tax payers have right to see where that money is being spent. She wouldn't stop complaining about it until some mutual friends who are also public sector told her the same thing.

She did bring up one good point though. She's DOC, and mentioned the state blows WAY more money to make sure prisoners are "taken care of". Myself having worked corrections at one time, I can tell you that means a lot of FSA shenanigans going on behind bars.

So where can I find an itemized list of how much the state pays for each individual inmate by name yearly?

Data covers the 2011-12 fiscal year and was provided by the University of Wisconsin in response to an open records request. It includes only employees paid more than $25,000.

Well... at least I'm not listed...

Agreed. While they aren't publishing the people's address, that information is pretty easy to find out(seriously, asking around town will get you the answer in less then an hour). Especially if you live in a small city.

I would never say it to her, but between you, I, and the rest of arfcom, she makes more as a prison guard than I made on active duty as an E-5 with 9 years TIS. You look up some of our old teachers? Fuck.

You can find all the same info on the particular government entity's operating budget. It wont have names, but position titles and dollars budgeted. The budgeted dollar amount includes benefits.

I work for a municipal government and I think it's okay. After all, we are paid with taxpayer's money and are employees of the taxpayers.

Just snooped on my neighbor who works for MATC.  She banks more than my wife and I combined.  Feels a little wierd now after all the times I've babysat her three kids for free.

My wage and benefit info has been published a few times over the years. I don't mind, but I do prefer they break it down and explain what is the base salary, OT earned, cost of benefits, etc. I've had people believe I was taking home six figures...don't I wish (Then I could buy some pmags)

This is something that should be done.  "Oh, Steve Leeroy made $87K last year at the treatment plant, he's soo overpaid"  is a lot different that " Steve Leeroy makes less than $20 an hour, but worked 70 hours a week for the last year"

Here's another interesting one. Our local school district has a Physical Therapist on the payroll. $49,665 salary and $8,342 in benefits. FTE? 7%.  That's 2.8 hours of work a week. Approx $341 an hour. I know degrees cost money, but.... a 4 year degree earns $341 an hour? I want to go back in time and kick my guidance counselor's ass.

Wasn't that how some corrections officers were banking six figs?  Milking overtime by calling in sick or 'stress leave' during regular shifts and then picking up additional weekend shifts.  They essentially only put in a standard work week, but much of it was billed as overtime.

The concept of overtime in a professional level position in the private sector is rare.  You don't get rewarded with more pay for failing to get things done during the regular work week.

Not happy they published names and I actually half expected them to publish full demographics.

They could have just shown position and etc.

My dad worked tons of hours of OT in late summer/fall/winter to provide for us.  I am sure he doubled his take home some years with the OT.  The trade off was, he woke up at 5, went to work, came home at 7 and went straight to bed for weeks every winter when I was growing up.  I am sure he worked upwards of 90 hours some weeks.  His hard work gave me and my brother everything we needed and wanted and if there was an internet database years ago, they would say he made too much money.

There are plenty of state and federal workers who put in tons of hours to make what they make, it doesn't indicate they are overpaid because of it.

I know many schools employ people in multiple roles to get to 100%, are you sure they don't do 93% elsewhere and it is being reported on multiple lines with the persons yearly pay?

I dated a lady chick female that was going to school for PT. There is a program where you can get your doctorate in PT in only 4 years.

Back when Madison was "under siege" by all the protesters, I looked up the salaries of my local school district employees. Wow. I didn't know a district administrator pulled down over a quarter-million per year, and a good number of teachers were over 100K. My eyes were opened.
