Do you favor universal background checks on gun sales in Virginia?

No 251 77.5%
Yes 73 22.5%

Now, on a related note, how did you do a firemission and get this many responses in less time while mine just seems to wither away??

That poll is deliberately vague and poorly written. Anyone who isn't a gun owner is not going to differentiate on "universal" and click yes. I work with a liberal shit bird who honestly believed that you could walk into a gun show and buy a gun with no NICS check from ANYONE, including dealers. The level of misinformation of so many people is astonishing, and all of those people would vote yes.

From Delegate Hope's website about "Virginia Lawmakers Propose Gun Safety Legislation":

""We easily purchased a handgun at a Virginia gun show, without undergoing a background check. Sadly, nearly 40% of all gun sales are conducted without a background check. In the interest of community safety, it's not too much to ask for responsible gun purchasers to undergo a background check to screen for criminal history or history of serious mental illness," the two wrote in a joint statement."

The quote in bold has been echoed by the President and news media alike. Has anyone ever paused to recognize that because private sales are not required to be documented that knowing how many of them occur to determine the percentage is not possible?

The 40% number is from a study from 1993 before the Brady law even went into effect. And it is basically from polling data. And includes people who inherited guns, were given guns as gifts, and people who "weren't sure" if the gun went through a background check. And the real number was like 35%.

In other words, the 40% number is bullshit.

Precisely the same conclusion I came to, which explains why politicians and TV news repeat it so often. Just curious if others were equally aware.
