Update: Two Men Cited in Relation to Theft of Oversized Lee Corso Game Day Mascot Head at OSU - 12/06/10
Oregon State Police (OSP) cited two men Monday afternoon in relation to Saturday's theft of an ESPN oversized Lee Corso Game Day mascot head in Corvallis.

According to OSP Lieutenant Jeff Lanz, after the missing mascot head was recovered late Monday morning an investigation by Senior Trooper Orly Johnson identified AUGUST MICHAEL ZANE CUNEO, age 26, from Eugene, and ALEXANDER JOSEPH WESTERBERG, age 25, from Harrisburg, as suspects. The investigation alleges CUNEO was walking through the Oregon State University (OSU) Memorial Union Quad near the Game Day broadcast location when he took the mascot head, walked away from the area and hid it in some bushes until WESTERBERG arrived in a car. They placed it in the car and drove to the Eugene area. After having second thoughts, the mascot head was dropped off where it was found this morning by an OSU employee in Harrisburg near his car.

The two men were not Oregon State University students. They reportedly had attended the University of Oregon but did not graduate from there. They were cited to appear in Benton County Circuit Court for one count of felony Theft in the First Degree.

No photographs of either man are available for this release.

The mentioned OSU employee has requested not to be identified in this release.

I'll bet the D.A's office either offers a plea to a lesser theft or they drop the charges completely

Yeah they got the dude who started or participated in the field fire. Looks like he got busted on a felony. Costly mistake right there.

Such a U of O thing to do.  Stupid vandals need some good jail buttsecks.

Next thing we will hear is "Oh they were just kids having fun."

Wonder how much this SNAFU will cost those of us who have to pay for it.
