I am about 5-8 minutes(turn of interstate-turn into driveway) off I95 about 20 minutes south of Fredericksburg.   I have a safe I could store it no problem.  My schedule is a little nuts but I will help you however I can.   IM me if don't find someone closer to DC.

There used to be a Greyhound station in Springfield years ago, not sure if it's still there or if they have any lockers there. Just a thought, I'm not exactly convenient to 95 myself.

unless you're on the far east side of Alabama, you should go thru Chattanooga/Knoxville to I-81 to I-66....

I'm not super convenient to your route (Reston, VA if you want to mapquest it) but I do work from home so pickup/dropoff would be easy. I'm not far from the Udvar Hazy Smithsonian, which should be on your itinerary anyway... (if this is a tourist thing)

NRA range at NRA HQ is a few miles off 495 in NOVA and has a ton of small lockers built into the walls in their hallway.  They may be available for you to use, I've never really thought about using one so I'm not sure.  Maybe someone could chime in to confirm.
If you could visit the range at the times when its open it may work for you as safe storage and no need to inconvenience anyone.
Just a thought, good luck.

I can throw a rock and hit 95, but the NRA HQ is probably the best in terms of "security".

I think lockers are a thing of the past at bus stations etc in a post 9/11 world...

(and I'm not sure about use of the lockers at the NRA range...are they meant for overnight gun storage?)

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but you could probably just field-strip the weapon, separate the ammo, and keep everything in a lockable container in the trunk while in DC and be perfectly legal.

I'd bet your chances of anything happening to it would still be less than leaving it in storage somewhere or with someone.  Just a thought.

every single unregistered bullet will get you in trouble IIRC thanks to the recent case with the former UMD basketball guy getting busted shooting off his guns in front of the white house.

Keep your pistol in the trunk of your nondescript car, and don't go around picking fights, or drive through Dupont circle screaming "fuck you faggot!" at random people who happen to be straight.

There are a lot of guns in DC, and while you will get in a lot of trouble if you are caught, deep carrying is not a unreasonable option.

<--- not a lawyer, don't listen to me.

Yes i do i live off of Exit 163 Lorton which is just south of the springfield I95/395/495 interchange.  I have a gun safe (though there isn't much room for long guns in it).  Also a monday monring departure visit would not be a problem as long as it is after say 6 am as i usually work from home on mondays to accomodate my kids school schedule.

If you want to contact me on this please email me or IM me.

My wife's a lawyer too and she just looks the other way when I go down to the safe before we head to DC/MD.

I live just south of Fredericksburg also - just off 95.  Your gun would be welcome in my safe for a few days/week.  Let me know!
