Met Jon Dillon many years ago when he gave a wide eyed broadcast major a tour of the station he was working at and bit of time to pick his head on the business.  Corporate radio strikes again.

I remember first listening to him on the 'ZEW along with LaBella and Rodie.

What makes you think they aren't on the list?

Too bad, I loved how he would play a song, then drop a little story about how the song was made, or history behind the band's work on the album.

Years and YEARS ago, I used to listen to Bill Mack on WBAP.  You could hear his show all over the United States.  At some point, he and WBAP fell out, and Bill went to XM Radio, and now XM Radio has got rid of him --

So I guess this isn't the first time a DFW icon has been canned.

My boy my boy.

I used to really like listening around 2 or 3 in the morning --

"Joe Smith from Akron called in and wanted his family to know he's all right and should be home tomorrow.  Joe is driving a 1977 Kenworth, and is currently in Nashville.  He's asking us to play "For the Good Times", and to push that little button that makes the signal stronger".

Oh yeah.  Those were the days before cell phones.

Remember Cola-820?

I can't place it, but whenever I hear "Orange Blossom Special" I remember many many night shifts.

COLA-820 was the phone number for Bill Mack at WBAP in the 70's and probably earlier.

Man, that was some time ago.  Couple girls and I shared a radio in our office and I would listen to the "ZEW" in the mornings and they got their station in the afternoon.  Good times!

John LaBella was killed in a traffic accident about 10 years ago.

A fork lift fell off of a trailer IIRC.

I remember hearing that on the news. It was a sad day for DFW.

We still have Mike Ryner around, on 1310 The Ticket.

Yeah, I'm a P-1 now.
