The most compelling tragedy of the Dick-H Lugar situation is that far too many people (who should know better) actually believe he's pro-RKBA because he claims he supports the 2nd Amendment and a person's right to own "a gun." Obviously that's somewhere between extreme intellectual dishonesty and outright, bold-faced lying, but that's splitting hairs. Anyway, these people believe because he's 1) a Republican, and 2) he's from Indiana that he's their friend in DC.
All it takes is to pay attention to how the guy votes on legislation for a little while and you can see he's no friend of anyone who believes in the dignity of the individual, liberty, and the Constitutional Republic we used to have.
YET THEY WON'T DO IT and they continue to vote for him!!
Now, I'm pretty much the laziest guy I know. I'm so lazy my guns are rusty (tnek and some others on here can verify this), but even I know how important my voting choices are. Even if it's akin to spitting into the wind (like voting against Lugar), the principle is what is important and the duty to vote is sacred.
Most of the districts in Indiana are blessed with excellent Congressmen (obviously
NOT Julia Carson), but our senators, both Lugar and Bayh are bad, bad news. They abuse their power by voting against the will of the people, by voting against what is right and moral, by voting against logic & facts & truth, by voting against the principles and literal content of the Constitution, and then they lie about it to us. In my opinion, that makes them bad people. Any yet, there's not a chance in hell either of them (or Carson
) will ever fail to get re-elected.
I'm against term limits on principle, since terms should be limited by the actions of the elected official compared to how well the consituents agree with it. Unfortunately in the case of Lugar and Bayh, too many Hoosiers have extreme cranial-rectal inversion when they vote. I'd almost support term limits if it could get rid of them, but there's no guarantee we'd get any better.
