Never a dull day at Rancho Chiropractic

I was waiting outside for the paramedics and fire department to pick up one of my patients (overdosed on pain medication) when a van pulls up right next to me. I noticed a big POLICE armband on the passengers sleeve and thought..hmm.. that's what UC or SWAT guys wear when they raid a place.... Well, 2 seconds later he jumps out and the van door pops open with 6 other guys. Weapons drawn, vests on and a "door knocker". They were raiding a little Latino "Vitamin" store. It's about damned time. I called the medical board about that place about 3 years ago and they didn't do jack. They offer every drug under the sun and do injections in that place. My patients told me that the offer medication at reduced prices but I told them they don't know what they are getting?????

Again, never a slow day at Rancho Chiropractic

thanks,
Ron

Channel 3 news at 11pm just said that the SWAT team were actually DEA agents raiding the place for selling meds without a script. The medicine was not even REAL medicine just like I had been telling my patients.

Ron

Reminds me of the "Cheetahs'" raid where the FBI stormed in with MP-5's and M-16's drawn...2 officers could have simply walked into either there or this vitamin store weapons holstered and told the owners they have a search warrant and they need to get out....strippers and vitamin stores,  I really woundn't be worried about getting in a full-auto firefight. I guess it is a good time to get all decked out in taxpayer funded tactical gear and play with a nice weapon or two. The funny thing is I bet if some idiot pulled out a snub nosed .38 revolver and took a shot half of those DEA agents would have shit their pants and turned running.

Man dude, that is exactly what I was thinking. I had to quote the whole thing because it is so right-on. I was at a Baja Fresh in Green Valley a couple of years ago and in walk these cops all decked out in tactical gear (no rifles though), and they order like a couple of beat cops. When I walked outside they were driving a regular cruiser. Now I've got no beef with cops, in fact I have four pretty good friends who are on the job. But this scene in Green Valley and Rancho Drive is exactly the kind of ubercop anti-PR stuff we don't want in this city (versus, say, Los Angeles)! Are they really on some kind of super 'in-country' trip or something? I can't help but feel they are really just digging the authority and are not really into the whole protecting and serving lifestyle. (If you're a cop, or know one, and behave in this manner, please do not flame me. This is only the opinion of an honest citizen who wonders why he is taxed into the ground, constantly observes flagrant spending at the city, county, and state levels, but the teachers are starving).

This is kinda the same thing when you drive around and see 6 squad cars with 8 officers with 1 guy cuffed. Blatant of use of power.  Seems like they could be out there protecting us.

if you ever have the pleasantry of being pulled over by Henderson Police, or witness someone else who has been pulled over, there are always a minumum of 3 cruisers.  WHY? i dont know, i can only guess that pulling someone over for a routine trafic violation is the most exciting thing that has happened all day over in Henderson.

You are so right about the multiple Henderson PD for a traffic stop. My wife and I laugh everytime we see a person pulled over. There are at the very least 2 Henderson PD Suburbans, if not three.

There was this one occasion where this Black guy got a flat in front of Krispy Kreme on Eastern. No less than 5 cops stopped to see what he was doing. No one offered to help but they managed to "peek" into his car and trunk while he was working on his car. It almost seemed orchestrated. As one cop would leave, another would show up within in a few minutes. That guy took forever changing his tire because as soon as he would start working on his car another cop would pull up and question him.

BTW, one of the guys arrested in that drug bust already started "ratting" on other illegal drugstores here in town.

thanks,
Ron

Have you ever told a stripper you lied and don't have any cash left on you?  Believe me, you need a S.W.A.T. team.

Go on a ride-along with the HPD. You'll see why they double up on calls.

The part of Henderson I live in is nice enough. Not as much of a shithole as, say, NLV or most of LV. I live in a mostly white, hard-workin' neighborhood where we all own our homes (most of us bought new). It's right up off Horizon and Boulder Hwy.

I'm trying to ignore your remark, but finding it difficult to do so . . .

I would agree that Henderson cops probably need to double-up on areas like Morrel Park or near Water Street and Basic but on Stephanie and Sunset and Stephanie and Warm Springs? Hardly the "danger zone" that would require at least 2 SUV's to write a speeding ticket.

In fact, my sister-in-law was pulled over on Warm Springs and Marks because she matched a "suspicious vehicle".  Nevermind the driver of the other vehicle was Black, but he searched her vehicle, including the trunk. Nevermind that she was driving a late-model mustang that was not "dubbed"-out, just a plain-jane mustang. Nevermind she wasn't speeding. Nevermind that he commented on "who's all the food for and where are you taking it" because she was getting food while I was watching the kids.

I don't know about your area of Henderson but there are ALWAYS two vehicle for EVERY traffic stop. EVERY single ticket that I have seen written has ALWAYS had two vehicle.

thanks,
Ron

It's simple. Officers call for backup as part of their routine. You NEVER know who the bad guys are - NEVER. Another prevalent reason for multiple cars is training. Many times there is an FTO and a Rook in the second or third vehicle.

Like I said, simply sign up for a few ride-alongs and you'll see what I'm talking about.

As for areas - that's just not a factor. I have been involved with the investigation of an armed robbery at a fast-food place near the very intersection you mention - Stephanie and Warm Springs.

If I had the time to go for a ride-along maybe I would but I don't. I could see if this was just me thinking that I see this but everybody I know in the area jokes about it. My family, my neighbors, friends that come to visit, everybody notices it.

As far as areas are concerned, I would have to disagree with you. I drive near MLK/Lake Mead and Lake Mead/Civic Center daily and I think those areas are just tad tougher to police than Stephanie and Sunset. I never see more than one Metro or NLV cop giving somebody a ticket.

thanks,
Ron

Of course, but no area is ever completely safe. I guess if you have such a big problem with the HPD then you should give Chief Mayberry a call and talk to him about it. I only know that I like the fact that we have a good presence of officers up here. I appreciate what they do, no matter how many of them do it.

I don't have a problem with it... I just think that it's a joke. I have lived in Henderson for 20 years and feel that it's a waste of police time. Henderson won't send an officer out to a house when an alarm is going off (changed rules because they are understaffed) but need 2 vehicles to write a ticket. Now they want to raise taxes to add more police officers... maybe they will need three officers to write a ticket. Also, searching a trunk of a white girl because a black girl drives a similar mustang demonstrates too much time on someone's hand.

Regardless, my taxes go to pay their salaries so I am glad they are out there working (just not so many giving tickets )

thanks,
Ron

WHen i lived in Hendo (just over a year ago) i saw this all the time. My favorite was a little white neon, with two teenage blondes, and not two, not three, but FOUR units, 2 Tahoes and 2 cars, lined up behind, with ALL the lights going. I appreciated the coverage so much that when the cops came by door to door, asking to put a sign in my front yard regarding a tax increase, i told her hell no...You're asking ME for more money, when you guys drive better cars (Tahoe) than me?

the only major event that i can recall at the moment that happened in HD was the Ross armored car thing. Did HPD handle it? Or did Metro SWAT?

Small town departments are just different than larger ones, or ones that see more action.
