Any local sources (MPLS, west to Cokato area) to get a bunch of mags beadblasted and parked for cheap?

Dumbass me FINALLY got the time to go through all the mags from the last shoot...a lotta my 1911 mags have rust on 'em, and I won't even get into the FAL mags...

Right now they're soaking in CLP, but given the options of a) hit it with a sandpaper wheel, get to bare metal, and paint with krylon or b) drop the load off at a local guy who can blast and park...well, I'd rather they be parked

Talk to Randy at Territorial!  Think Duracoat!

I thought Randy had to send out for sandblasting/beadblasting? (I know he sends out for bluing)

Take your mags, remove the rust and crud with hot soapy water and "naval jelly" and reblue them in a bucket full of "Superblue". Then throw them in a ziplock bag with CLP , and that into a pot of boiling water outdoors. (I use the side burner on my grill for this)

Mags don't need to be pretty...just functional.

"coating" them will add to the outside dimension of them, which may cause them to bind or fail to drop from the receiver.

That would be a bad thing, IMHO.

Duracoat would probably be a little thick for mags..at least for 1911 mags..and for the un-kryloned FAL mags I have, well, krylon works well on 'em (I already did a bunch)...just gotta hit 'em with the sandpaper.

100w_warlock hmm..that's actually a good idea. I feel the same about mags; I just don't want the corrosion to continue.

I've already got a pile in a ziplock bag all coated with CLP...I'll give your suggestion a shot when I have some free cycles.

Thanks all!

I do not know but he has the stuff to Duracoat and it is my underdstanding that he is doing locally himself.  Bluing is one thing, but it never hurts to ask him!

AR mags are aluminum, not steel, so gun blue will not work on them.  You'll have to go another route unless they are steel mags.

Don't forget to clean your mags...carb cleaner or "gunscrub" is perfect for this...then, lube it up with some CLP and take an airgun to the mag and get all the extra lube out of it.

Its funny, we spend $$$$ on a sub MOA rifle, but, we demand to use $10 magazines.
(I dropped $75 on 3 Ruger factory 20rd mags for my Mini-14 and it has proven as reliable as any firearm I own)

My 1911 is ALOT less picky, but, I do like the mecgar 8rd ones with base pads.

My BHP enjoys the belgian contract mags that I cleaned up. I need to put basepads on them , though....adds more weight and makes em easier to eject.

Beta-C mags....get one and be done. ;)

I asked him about it today to confirm it.  I forgot to ask about prices though.
