In one spot we averaged about 200 or more pictures a week of deer under one feeder.
This year we are getting only 10 or so.
Last night a doe came running under my stand hauling ass and didn't stop.
A coyote came running behind but gave my stand a good 75 yard leeway.
Tonight 4 does came out at about 100 yds and stood out in the open. I had the muzzle loader (traditional TC Hawken) on them then they took off running.
I looked back and a coyote was on their tails. I took a shot but killing a running coyote with a muzzle loader is hard to to.
But he is going to have a permanent limp from now on.
He rolled then took off with a leg dangling.
Next week is going to be nothing but coyote hunting. I have to get them thinned out before gun season starts.
My son Matt played sneak and peak up the creek a few days ago and busted a nice whitetail. He hit the front leg also and then lost the buck in the briars. He was sick.
I can't get out and put the sneak on the deer with my leg like it is. Uneven ground makes my IT band start swelling so I'm pretty damn limited to stands.
This ain't our year. This time last year we had 4 or 5 down and in the freezer by now.
Friggin' coyotes.
That's OK, I've refrained from calling coyotes up because of deer season.
But next week my fat ass will be camoed up on the hill with the call going.
I'm gonna thin those bastards out.
